After a quick look at a chart I could make a decision as to whether I would be interested in speculating. If I was interested I would attempt to limit my downside. I quess that's part of the arguement of TA, it's not really a coin flip.

That's what speculators do. Of course you have to throw in some money management and risk control.

I think we are pretty much of the same mind. You mention semantics, if the founding fathers had called it a protectorate rather than a government where the elected officials were to protect the people instead of goverm them, things might be different today.

@longandshort When someone asks what you think about a stock, what is the first thing you look at. For me it's a daily candlestick chart. (1 year) This tells me at a glance what the price is doing and has done and what interest traders have taken in the stock.

And replaced with?

I don't for sure but increasing volume tells me that there is some interest in the stock. As for the direction, I look at the chart. Chanches are that if price is increasing on volume that it will continue to increase. Not 100% of the time but enough to move the probabilities to better than...

That is arguable. If I can see what the institutions are doing, I should be able to guess why. I doubt that institutions are buying because they believe the price is going to fall.

TSE; NYSE; NASDAQ; $5 to whatever. I can buy a single stock if it's to price. Nope don't own any BRK I buy trending stocks and sell when the trend changes. I've sold the next day and held a stock for 9 years.

I'm not interested in ECN's. I trade out of Canada and don't use Direct to market broker. My fills for the most part are good enough for me. I mentioned ECN's because you stated that MM's controled everything.

Where do ECNs fit into the picture?

Still confused how they bypass the public and institutions to move the price. I can see it if everybody had market orders but a lot of traders have limit orders. I was led to believe that the market was more open auction. Supply and demand. Do the MM's have enough power to overcome institutions?
