I spend less than $1000 per year. I swing trade stocks, mainly use TA, I subscirbe to one service for their scanning program and another a quick look at fundamentals and news. My broker also has free research reports if I'm interested. My data and trading progam is free through the broker.

Throw in a couple winners that run hard. 80/20 rule; I make 80% of my profit on 20% of my trades.

I use a percentage of my liquid net worth. Right now I'm 59% in cash.

Looks like you might be a bit late. Your quality companies are down 40%ish. At what point do do get back in? I've been out for over a year and it looks like it might be time to get back in.

Yup! The market will go out of its way to reinforce bad behavior. If you focus on process rather than results you won't make bad trades. No bad trades, no good results to mess with your mind.

Really the only thing that changed is our expectations. 60s households had 1 car, 1 TV(maybe). 1 phone attached to the wall and the kids went outside and played. There was very little consumer debt. If you didn't have the money to buy something you saved up not borrowed.

I changed my focus from winning and losing to whether I followed my process. A good trade can have a bad outcome.

You mean to say that you don't have a rich life today compared to the 50s & 60s?

What are you trading?

With stocks it's Risk/ Reward! When you are long all you can lose is your initial investment. When you are short the loss can be much greater than your initial investment. When short you borrow stock to sell. The borrower can ask for their stock back at the most inopportune time.

I don't trade ES but you will find with swing trading that there are days you probably shouldn't trade.

Is that what you do?

If you are a well disciplined rules based trader, outside stresses shouldn't affect your trading.
