    Diversification good or bad?

If diversification is a good thing then buy the whole market with an ETF. You won't get market beating results for obvious reasons. You can further diversify by asset class and add some fixed income to your portfolio to knock your performance down a few more points. Buffet suggests the average...

That will depend on how she manages her losses. I wouldn't let her go live for a few more months :)

Beginner Stock Trader - Strategy + Help Request

Like I said someone is wrong. This time it could be me. :) Not the first time either, I'm wrong more than I'm right but I have a plan that keeps me from losing a lot of capital. I have yet to meet a trader that hopes a trade moves against them. I suppose you could make a case for the trader...

Beginner Stock Trader - Strategy + Help Request

Every trader is different, that's what makes a market. Like they say every trade has two participants that think they are right and one isn't. :) Low float stocks are more volatile but they can hit you on the downside as well. I'd suggest you test (paper trade) the strategy in real time for a...

    Diversification good or bad?

I have done quite a bit of back testing of different trading strategies and have come to believe that a portfolio of 7 to 8 stocks is optimum. Diversified to a point but not overdiversified. My personal strategy is not to have any losing stocks in my portfolio. It works for me and has handily...

Beginner Stock Trader - Strategy + Help Request

Hard to say if it is too simple. What is your exit strategy when the trade moves against you? Why are you looking for a low float? Every bit of news you get on Finviz is old news. Also news tend to give you a bias that will cause you to ignore what the market is telling you. Penny stocks...

    Diversification good or bad?

To quote Darvas "Diversifying over a large number of stocks leads to only average performance. Since only 3 or 4 will produce big profits the remaining stocks drag the performance down. Diversifying over a large number of stocks doesn't mitigate risk. In a bear market all stocks fall. The...

    Trading Rules

The market is not wrong only fickle. I fully agree we don't know and can't know. At best it is an educated guess. Bias formed from news and fundamentals might lead me to ignore what the market is telling me. The solution is the old adage of cutting losses and letting winners run.

    Trading Rules

The market is never wrong. Regardless of your bias the market will move in the direction it wants. Better to trades based on what the market is doing rather than what you believe it should be doing.

    Daily Habits - Strategy Improvement

I am a long term stock trader. I spend less than 10 minutes in the evening reviewing my holdings and when I have capital available, I might spend another 10 minutes scanning for set-ups. I spend maybe 10 minutes at the open executing any trades called for. I've been at this for a while...

The other day I met a trader

ES; Maybe like myself you are just getting bloody old. I find I don't need to impress anyone. My built in bullshit metre has become more sensitive. I don't mind spending quality time by myself. The people who care don't matter and the people who matter don't care.

How much taxes do you pay for Daytrading?

In Canada day trading is taxed as income. It is a progressive tax system so the more you make the more tax you pay. By the time you get to 50% tax you will be making enough to afford a decent accountant who will show you how to write off all your expenses such as your annual trip to Vegas to...

Statistics: why the stock market is the easiest market to trade

I think it depends more on the trader than the market. The stock market is not as heavily margined as the others so while the possibility of doubling your account is there so is the possibility of losing your account in a short time. I have traded both stocks and futures. Day trading, swing...
