7/15 Today's Watchlist: MRNA CCL DAL AAPL VXRT OXY TNA

Has any one actually done that? For the price of a cup of coffee you can take a trial. I haven't yet. It's summer time and there is too much else to do in the morning; maybe this winter when the golf courses are covered with snow.

    Swing Trading >> Daytrading

Swing trading works very well for lazy traders like myself. 1/2 hour in the evening and 1/2 hour as the market opens.

Double edged sword with leverage. No one mentions that the losses are also leveraged. It's big losses that blow up accounts.

What's a good moving average crossover for swing trading stocks?

3/8 works for swing trading except when it doesn't. :sneaky: It's the ma's used by Petra Hess. Of course that is only a small part of the process. What to buy, how much to buy, and when to sell must also be part of your plan.

    Swing Trading >> Daytrading

Daytrader; Your risk is limited to how you react to what the market gives you. Being flat at the end of the day you are not exposed to overnight events which may cause your position to change drastically. Swing Trader; Less stress, no need to sit in front of a computer all day, more time to do...

[QUESTION] - Individual Stock Set Ups And Overall Market Assumption

FWIW: I don't open a long position if the market is going down. The probability of my stop getting hit goes up so why take on extra risk.

Are you a successful at home day trader with no other source of income who began with modest means?

I'll take a look at that one. While you are here I'd like your take on the books I recommend to anyone who asks about trading. O'Neil, Weinstein, Darvas, and Wyckoff are the authors I suggest. All ancient stuff but still pertains today.

What is the threshold to be considered a successful day trader?

Maybe. It looks nice. But then it could only be $120. You are profitable but are you successful? Do you have another skill set where you can make more money and expend less effort and time. Could you make just as much money buying and holding SPY.

What is the threshold to be considered a successful day trader?

That's all very nice but doesn't answer the question "How do you determine if you are successful"?

What is the threshold to be considered a successful day trader?

There is a method to calculate expectancy for your set-ups. It doesn't give you a benchmark but lets you know if the set-up has a positive expectancy. As a benchmark you may want to use a number that you can achieve with the same effort you put into trading.

What is the threshold to be considered a successful day trader?

I suppose it is something that should be front and foremost in your trading plan. How do I measure success?

What is the threshold to be considered a successful day trader?

Given the number of traders who fail, beating a buy and hold strategy might be a place to start. I'm sure there are traders who manage to achieve a 50 to 100% returns. And there are hockey players who can play in the NHL, but buying a pair of skates and a hockey stick won't get you the big...

I would imagine the successful traders are sticking with their strategy and the others are chasing their tales switching from one to the other.

How does one sort out losers and trolls?

So if traders have control of their emotions, as they should, and don't respond, the troll receives no gratification. Don't feed the trolls!!

    Am I Wasting My Time?

I took the hard route. I let the market teach me. I would have gladly paid someone who was successful show me the ropes; the problem was I couldn't find anyone successful who was willing to teach. If there is a secret, it is to know yourself. Figure out why you do stuff and then find a way to...
