I have to say, investing beats trading

Then I suggest you diversify. That hides your mistakes.

I have to say, investing beats trading

I wonder how many traders turned into investors when a trade ended up going against them. I agree that traders are probably worst off because they keep trading, it's a tough way to make a living. Where as investors just sit with their losers and hope. Eventually they might get back to break...

Who else thinks a Correction or CRASH may be coming? My top call #2 1/9/2021

Why are you allowed to make calls? What is to stop you from being very specific about how you are going to play the next predicted move? Or even giving a hypothetical scenario.. If I was going to play this next move I would buy this stock at XXX with a stop at xxx and a target of XxX.

I have to say, investing beats trading

It is a nice return but how do you compare it to what a trader might have done moving in and out of that stock?

How likely is it now that a financial transaction tax will pass?

I haven't seen any numbers in this thread. Really I don't care. I don't day trade and a small tax is not going to make a significant difference to my bottom line. To my knowledge there isn't a tax yet so there isn't anything I can do. If and when a tax appears I'll adjust. I probably won't go...

How likely is it now that a financial transaction tax will pass?

HFT is recent and I doubt that there are too many successful retail HFT traders. I agree a transaction tax would cut into their profits when you are trading for pennies or less. As for day traders there were lots prior to the dot com crash. Commissions at that time were in the neighbourhood of...

How likely is it now that a financial transaction tax will pass?

Are you saying that there were no successful retail traders prior to the advent of discount brokers in 1975 or 2000 when stock spreads changed to pennies rather than eights of a dollar.

How likely is it now that a financial transaction tax will pass?

Let's not forget that in the good ole days the commissions were 3%, the spread was 25 cents, the data on the ticker tape was late on busy days and traders still made millions. A FTT will just cull out the traders that would eventually go broke anyway.

What else to learn in technical analysis apart from indicators ?

Why would you set a time limit? If a stock doesn't do what you want it to do why would you hold it for a year?

What else to learn in technical analysis apart from indicators ?

On my charts I have a couple moving averages. I watch how price moves in relation to those MAs I move between a 6 month daily chart , a one year daily chart and a 5 year weekly chart. I pay particular attention to where price moved in the past. Also to risk management. If you have a charting...

Trader from Hungary looking for Mentor or working strategy

Post the strategy you are using. You'll probably get lots of suggestions on how to improve. Keep asking yourself "Why did I do that?" The harder the question is to answer the closer you are to the problem.

Probably not going to find it for free. Stockcharts.com has the data but you might have to get a subscription. VectorVest Canada has a free trial. It might be worth the price if it gives you the info you need.

Day trading vs swing trading vs investing...

Ah the good ole days!!! Phone your broker, 3% commission per trade, Day old newspaper for research. Even with all that, trading seemed a better route than investing. Now I swing/position trade. Buy stocks that are going up and sell them when they stop.
