I agree that day trading is tougher than swing trading for all of the above reasons. That is why I swing trade. For sure I agree that it is more stressful. All of the above can be controlled. That's what makes a successful trader, the ability and the discipline to make quick decisions. When the...

can price action predict market moves

How I trade or what motivates me has nothing to do with the risk involved. I'm saying that there is less risk in day trading. If you can tell me to the dollar what your account balance will be when the market opens on Monday I'll agree that there is no risk. A day trader can tell you that...

can price action predict market moves

Risk is about when you are in the market. If you day trade you are only in the market when the market is open. At the end of the trading day you have no risk. Agreed you have no opportunity to benefit from a white swan but the objective is to control risk. Regardless of what happens overnight or...

can price action predict market moves

If there is any risk of a black swan event causing the market to react and open opposite to your position. Then there is more risk than being flat at the end of the day. There might not be a great risk and it is something you can live with. (I do). I don't see where chop carries more risk...

can price action predict market moves

Are you saying there is no risk at all? When you are flat each night there is no risk. Zero!! FOMO but that's another goblin under the bed. :)

can price action predict market moves

I can only control what I do. The supposition that 95% of traders fail shouldn't figure into the calculation of what is risky. Well i guess it has to if you are considering trading as a source of income. I don't see it as a risk. I'm too overconfident. (Another risk) :)

I'm only concerned when it works against me. #1 priority is capital preservation. There is no risk when you are not in the market.

can price action predict market moves

Day trading is much harder than swing/position trading due to often finding yourself chopped by randomness of intraday activities of market participants. Throw in DAC's reasons and you have a recipe for disaster for vast majority of daytraders. I just don't daytrade, I made 2 trades recently...

can price action predict market moves

The problem I find is that when an institution makes a large trade it's usually a cross or done in the dark pools and doesn't show up immediately. The other thing is that large trades are done by institutions. It's not often institutions trading against retail traders. How do you tell which...

can price action predict market moves

Why would the risk be different? Faster maybe but not different. Day trading has the least risk. You are flat every night and there fore have no risk of an afterhours event that will move the price against you.

Can you beat the S&P500 index in the long run?

Did you run the numbers? What it look like to me is that although you were not buying the dips, you were also not buying on the way down. You were accumulating cash that bought more shares when the price crossed the MA on the way up. Aside from the odd whipsaw you were also selling high and...

Can you beat the S&P500 index in the long run?

Have you looked at a market timing model? You can dollar cost average into the portfolio but go to cash when the market is below a moving average.(you can experiment with the MAs; 200 day is popular with Wall street; Weinstein suggested the 30 week) Buy back when it crosses above. Also try...
