Startups got less investment funding in 2016

Right over the head on that one. Really, Enron wasn't a startup. Who knew? Thanks for educating me on that as well as the nearly infinite power of business plans, the need for "qualifications" for entrepreneurs, the fact that I personally can get as much VC money whenever I want (yay!), and...

any other funds similar to Renaissance Tech?

Wow, ignore a significant piece of the world's wealth because it's too much hassle? Must be nice. You'd think you could hire a bunch of experts who could pretty easily take care of that kind of thing for you and just pass the cost on to the Yanks. They've got whole professions for that kind of...

Startups got less investment funding in 2016

I can tell you there is a weird inversion that I've only seen in the Bay area, and I've lived in most parts of the country. In most other places, the all in monthly cost of owning a house (payments you make on a mortgage plus taxes and insurance minus the tax benefits) is roughly equal to the...

Startups got less investment funding in 2016

I can tell you on the Peninsula real estate values only paused their upward trajectory before resuming it when I lived there during the 2008 housing crisis. The outer outer suburbs like Concord and Antioch with big housing developments got killed, but from Marin to Santa Clara there was really...

    Fundseeder. Opinions? Useful/Not. Risk?

WTF are you posting on a thread about outside funding if you don't have any interest in outside funding? What exactly are you trying to accomplish, what would "provide value" to you?

Startups got less investment funding in 2016

Clearly not. How does that make anything I've stated in this thread incorrect? Please, go item by item. A lot of full time investors lost a lot of money in Enron, by your logic that means all full time investors are a bunch of idiots who would invest in anything? Admittedly the VC industry...

    Fundseeder. Opinions? Useful/Not. Risk?

Then don't seek outside funding! No one is ever going to dissuade a paranoid person from being paranoid, you'll always be able to come up with some scenario where your precious is stolen from you. So you don't get to participate in managing other peoples money. It's that simple. Just use your...

Startups got less investment funding in 2016

Again, based on what experience? Its interesting how we form an initial opinion on something based on just a few minutes exposure to something like a TV show that we all know is clearly not going to tell the full story. And yet because its the first opinion we ran into, we stubbornly hold on to...

Startups got less investment funding in 2016

So first of all Naja didn't received a funding round from a venture capital firm before the March 2015 shark tank episode, if you know anything about startup funding you'd know how silly it would be to go to angel investors after you already had a VC round. Second, $145,000 in revenue in 5...

Startups got less investment funding in 2016

Did you even read my post? The company in question is worth $10M+ today, it went forward with an angel round and is a success, despite how sure you and your wise shark tank experts were that it was "ludicrous". Google was just as crazy when it was both funded and went IPO. I mean what the heck...

Startups got less investment funding in 2016

Sorry but you really couldn't be more wrong here. First, the Shark Tank you saw on Naja was a rerun from the beginning of 2015. Naja is doing very well now two years later(www.naja.com), employing dozens in the U.S. and Columbia, making the founder and her team money, and doing some good in the...

    Flex Options Broker

I think you may be conflating "electronic market" with there actually being a market. Electronic market just means that two parties can trade electronically if they so choose. An actual market means there are willing buyers and sellers. If you read the description for single stock futures...

    Fundseeder. Opinions? Useful/Not. Risk?

For the simple reason that a hedge fund depends on their reputation to continue to operate. If they trolled for strategies from hapless potential stars and stole them, then they'd rapidly lose their reputation and brand which is pretty much all they've got, when it would be far easier to simply...

    Fundseeder. Opinions? Useful/Not. Risk?

Or they're purposely screening out the overly paranoid as most of us don't want to work with those kind of people. Or the guy with one and only one goose laying golden eggs, again not the kind of person a hedge fund would want as a PM.

Bitcoin Exchanges - why are the prices so far apart?

You certainly can, it may very well be that the risk adjusted returns are worth it. I'm just pointing out that the risk is there and very real.

Bitcoin Exchanges - why are the prices so far apart?

First, the limited counterparty risk applies to holding BTC, not arbing it. If you're arbing you're converting BTC into real currency at Exchange A, withdrawing that currency from Exchange A to your bank, sending that currency to Exchange B, converting it to BTC for probably just as long as it...

Bitcoin Exchanges - why are the prices so far apart?

If you want to arbitrage between "exchanges" you have to convert your bitcoin to actual currency, then withdraw that currency. That exposes you to the full counterparty risk that that exchange fails during that period. The risk is enormous when compared to the counterparty risk of any normal...

    Flex Options Broker

As long as he was buying and not selling couldn't they just value them at $0 from the time he bought them?
  19. S

Bitcoin Exchanges - why are the prices so far apart?

The counterparty risk with these "exchanges" is massive. The difference in price is a pretty accurate reflection of the higher chance the higher price exchange will either fold, be hacked, or in some other way abscond with your money.

    Flex Options Broker

I'd love to be wrong and for that to be true. Please do report back if you have any success. I went on a failed quest like yours about a year ago but would love to be able to do flex at the low 7 figure retail as well so hope you can figure out a way to make it work.
