Quitting day job to collect weekly premiums - realistic?

Like I said, good luck with that whole interacting with other humans using language thing.

Quitting day job to collect weekly premiums - realistic?

So it sounds like it's "I completely understand the concept of Delta but refuse to use your imperialist word for the concept because it conspires to continue to keep the man down" then. Interesting. For a few hundred thousand years at least humans have been coining generally accepted words for...

Quitting day job to collect weekly premiums - realistic?

This type of willful ignorance of something that is easily learned is genuinely baffling to me. It it some kind of extreme anti-intellectualism? Misplaced "too cool for school" attitude from high school. Just general belligerence and obstinance? A "I completely understand the concept of Delta...

IB - buy bonds - what happens if IB fails?

That's a good question. If it's possible for you to go with a Reg-T account I'd say you're clearly covered. On the "charging" margin, they're not really charging it, are they. I.E. you're not paying margin interest? They're just reducing your buying power by 25% of the bond value? If they're not...

IB - buy bonds - what happens if IB fails?

Would you loan money to IB at the same rate as you could get for the same tenor U.S. Treasury? If not, there's counterparty risk there. It may not be huge, but it's real and certainly it's much more likely that any single company in the U.S. fails than that we suffer some run for the hills calamity?

IB - buy bonds - what happens if IB fails?

As long as you don't have any margin they're yours. My understanding is that any margin and you lose the protection you're looking for.

Quitting day job to collect weekly premiums - realistic?

You sound like Vizzini in the Princess Bride with that hahaha, right before he fell over dead from drinking the poison that he was sure wasn't poison because he was a Sicilian! Highly recommend Fooled by Randomness for you, even though Taleb can be tedious with his rants.

Quitting day job to collect weekly premiums - realistic?

I probably didn't express myself very well. I was trying to say that the way in which you construct the spread, i.e. double butterfly being eaten by an iron condor, is probably not the way you'll gain alpha. Finding a mispriced option is where the alpha comes from, and while you may need some...

    Over-contribution to RRSP

Not Canadian so excuse the dumb question, but what is your benefit of this plan? Avoiding self-employment taxes? How much are those, or if it's not that what is the quantifiable benefit?

For Baron. Why can't Fox News videos be embedded into posts.

Me too, although that's not such a bad thing for a Fox clip:sneaky:

Quitting day job to collect weekly premiums - realistic?

Somebody has to sell you that spread. If it's systemically unprofitable for them, which it must by if it's systemically profitable for you, they're going to stop selling it. So there is no magic combination of options that will consistently be profitable for you over a long period of time. There...

When do you think AI will dominate trading field?

The term algorithmic trading can mean 10 things to 10 different people. High frequency algorithmic trading is out of reach of most retail because they don't have the skills to program at that low of latency or the money to pay for the high speed links and the requisite hardware. An HFT shop will...

$200 surcharge for made in america apple iphone

You do realize that AAPL spends hundreds of millions to hire the best people in the world and put together the teams that design their products, don't you? There's far more to the cost of a product like an iPhone than the parts and assembly cost. In fact the vast majority of the value accrues to...

How many here started in their 40's?

So might your bank. Or your car mechanic. Or your spouse. You can't convince a paranoid person not to be paranoid, so I won't try with you. I'll just let you know that life is much more pleasant out here, even if I am naive. I'd rather lose a hundred grand then spend my life worried, without any...

NY Court Reinstates Ex-GS Programmer's Criminal Conviction

Don't worry, you probably wouldn't be! But somehow I've never lost an employee except to a family move for a spouses job or going back to school, so they seem to all be pretty happy. As I said, 7 years is unreasonable. Getting off free with no consequences and treating the guy as some kind of...

Interactive Brokers fails Risk Management 101

I call IB's staff incompetent, and list two examples of that. I'm still waiting on your explanation for those two examples, by the way? So far you've called me "retarded" and InfoTech a "prick", while studiously ignoring the very real issues that were brought up. Apparently we deserve this...

NY Court Reinstates Ex-GS Programmer's Criminal Conviction

It's not debatable at all, he was convicted in a court of law! My compassion is nearly unlimited for those who deserve it. Highly paid software developers who think it's OK to steal code from their employers are pretty far down the list of deserving people. When you're feeding your family based...

    Credit Cards

That's not what I said at all. Good grief! Check back with me after you've run a business or two. You're going to be sorely disappointed when you realize what the term "write off" actually means, it will be akin to learning that the tooth fairy and Santa Claus don't exist!
