    US declares China currency manipulator

To be fair, changing your interest rates directly changes spot and futures rates compared to all other currencies, it's a purely mechanical relationship. So every time the fed changes interest rates they're manipulating the USD rates. And while fighting a trade war or specifically devaluing the...

    Opening Auction and IB

Now I'm just completely confused. First you were talking opening auctions, now you're talking CFDs which are completely mutually exclusive to opening auctions. And French markets?

    Opening Auction and IB

How could the paper trading account simulate an auction where your bid would influence the outcome but your bid isn't actually sent to said auction? Some things can't be simulated on a paper trading account, this is one of them.

What are some (illegal) tricks that market makers use?

The point isn't that it never happens, you just need to read through the SEC enforcement actions to see that it does. The point is that it happens very rarely and never at a scale that it would be the reason that a punter on here with his $5,000 order was impacted by it in any real way. It is...

What are some (illegal) tricks that market makers use?

Again, fundamental misunderstanding for roles here. First off, of course a MM is going to "try to make the market when no one else is available", that is in fact the role of a MM for pete's sake! They offer a bid and an ask on a product and are always available as a buyer or seller, there is...

Please help me, option market making risk return, thanks

For sure, but a VC will hand you that in an A round which is almost as crazy. No doubt if successful it won't look like he imagines it will look right now,but he could very well end up doing something that started from that idea. That's the beauty of a bunch of conversations with smart folks, it...

Please help me, option market making risk return, thanks

You're trying to do something rather audacious. That's great, I'm all for it. I did something rather audacious as well after business school. However I'd say that a solid 80% of the value I received from business school was from building a network and 100% of my ability to start my first...

Arbitrage option trading does it really exsist?

If you buy the widest box possible using SPX options, for example, you get it at a discount to it's actual value. This discount is pretty much the treasury rate for that tenor, so it's effectively interest.

Please help me, option market making risk return, thanks

I think it's a whole next level to go direct to buy side if you don't at least have an internship under you belt. The whole field is big into "paying your dues" with shitty 80 hour a week jobs before you can get into the good stuff, stupid as that is.

    Brexit alternative legal options.

One wonders how they could negotiate anything better than then current zero tariffs they have with the rest of the EU? And why they think they would be in a better negotiating position than the entire EU for any other bilateral deals. @tomorton is right about the politically speaking results...

Veterans with USAA to see reduced cash yields following Schwab deal

USAA lost its soul 20 years ago. I dropped them as a LT because of something similarly underhanded I experienced with them in the mortgage market. Unfortunately most military folks know very little about finances, don't have the time or resources to learn more, and have been told to trust USAA...

Arbitrage option trading does it really exsist?

You can get an "arb" in a wide SPX box any time, meaning you buy the box for less than it's intrinsic value. Funny thing that it always seems to be at pretty close to exactly the discount rate for that tenor though. It is an alternative to buying treasuries if you need it, or a financing...

Please help me, option market making risk return, thanks

What year are you in B-school, did you work in banking before school, and are you going to a top 10ish school? If the answer to the second two questions is no, then it's going to be a very tough road to a buy side job. But , if you're first year (unlikely since it sounds like you're already...

Life after death is clearly real. Why do people still ridicule it?

Basic concepts like Kant's categorical imperative go a long way toward a moral framework that makes sense and doesn't require infinite cultural relativism which you mention. A reasoned moral framework always made far more sense to me than operating under some arbitrary set of rules some...

One thing I don’t understand about skew:

Interesting metric of success. You concern is touching, but no need to worry. I enjoy get togethers with my friends and neighbors and only go to parties if putting on a tux is absolutely necessary. Besides weddings which I generally enjoy, I've managed to avoid that nonsense for nearly a decade...

Sure, try https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/Delivery.cfm/SSRN_ID1573111_code863755.pdf?abstractid=1013421&mirid=1 and a little more orthogonal but a seminal study none the less https://www.emeraldinsight.com/doi/full/10.1108/15265940710750495 for starters. You can also try looking at the employment...

One thing I don’t understand about skew:

Anyone who wears a Mensa tie around has got some issues. Making a broad based conclusion based on your experience with the dude, also probably indicative of something. There are some "gut feel" guys trading their own money, probability says at least a few will be successful. A couple made it to...

When someone asserting that understanding is bad calls me "childish" I'll take that as a positive!

One thing I don’t understand about skew:

Understanding why something is happening is never a bad thing and certainly testing out a hypothesis against data isn't "justifying". It is a level of professionalism that most traders don't rise to, but based on the level of discussion on this thread I thought it was a possibility here, my bad.
