    wrongful-death settlement, taxes and trusts

Well given that there are over 300M Americans and we're still nominally a democracy, then the 50M will have to convince the vast majority of the country that they're right then we'll change the law. That's given that your assertion is correct that 50-100 million people are against civil...

Interactive Brokers introduces free zero commission trading platform.

If either IB or Robinhood offered anything even approaching the level of customer service of those firms I might agree. They don't and they can't with the revenues that come from payment for order flow. Since commissions make up a fraction of a fraction of a percentage of most portfolios those...

    Your Perspective on Health Insurance?

I think it's interesting how we use the word "insurance" in the U.S. when it comes to health care. In the abstract and in most other fields, we use the word insurance to convey the idea that a bunch of people will pool the risk of a few catastrophic events that will inevitably happen to a few...

Bill Gates ‘wouldn’t be against a wealth tax’ — here’s how it could affect his fortune

It's probably worth reading up a bit on Gates. I really want to not like him, Microsoft and all, but the guy has literally been responsible for virtually eliminating a number of diseases...plus he basically managed to convince/cajole/shame a significant number of the richest people in the world...

    spx margin

    Thanks, I stand corrected!

    spx margin

I don't see why PM margin would be calculated differently for a single underlying. The word "Portfolio" in "Portfolio Margin" is there for a reason, it's reducing margin if the portfolio reduces risk compared to the risk of each component of the portfolio alone. If you've got only one option in...

    spx margin

If you're just trading SPX options, your leverage is going to be the same under Reg-T and PM, no?

    spx margin

It's not clear what a portfolio account has to do with SPX options? If you want to minimize your outlay you can always trade vertical spreads. A 5 point spread has only a $500 max cost/loss per contract.

    Suretrader suspended 5 days

The Bahamas extends nearly 600 miles, the hurricane only really damaged the Abacos and Grand Bahama. While it's doubtful that Suretrader actually has any humans or infrastructure in the Bahamas, if they did one would expect it to be in Nassau which wasn't impacted.

    Brokers that accept bitcoin disposit

Use transferwise or something similar. No reputable U.S. broker is going to eat the CC transaction charge to let you make a deposit.

Sounds like you have the answer!

Carl Icahn moving hedge fund to Miami

Actually I have people all over the country, which works for me. Probably harder to pull off with a hedge fund.

    is Brexit still happening?

Because such a deal isn't possible! They'd also be incapable of solving cancer in a year no matter who or how many voted for it! At some point you folks have to realize that just because people voted to set up a fairy castle guarded by unicorns in a leprechaun forest doesn't make what they want...

700x Return Overnight - It Happened just the other day

Perhaps, but again you'd need to have some reason to believe you could interpret those clues better than anyone else. For example, if you were actually in that industry and had a pulse on what was going on with various players and the company in question specifically. If it's just that you're...

700x Return Overnight - It Happened just the other day

Right, I'm just saying that if "high interest in a low probability strike" is a thing that leads with any regularity to "above risk adjusted returns for that strike", then it would be trivial to set up a program that looks for "high interest in a low probability strike" and buys lotto tickets on...

700x Return Overnight - It Happened just the other day

Consider that if you're jumping in on significant activity you're by definition at least second to the game. Probably 52nd if there's any alpha to it since it's trivial to write code to find it and jump on it. So you're no longer buying $.05 lotto tickets, you're now buying $100 pulls on the...

700x Return Overnight - It Happened just the other day

How many negative results does this yield? Without quantifying that, listing one success is meaningless. I can claim that vix will shoot up every day and when it inevitably does claim to be a guru, but that doesn't mean I am or that my information is in any way actionable.

Carl Icahn moving hedge fund to Miami

I should have said acting like an asshole, thanks for keeping me honest on the ad hominem. At this point I think we've clarified our thoughts to the point we are generally in agreement, so I'll look forward to future discussions. Have a good weekend.

Margin on option stratgies, help !!

I always wondered why they don't trade at a discount to the ETFs of the same index to reflect the debt that they are. The discount should be greater than the issuer's bond interest rates given they're effectively unsecured debt.
