    Soros on Trend Following

I love this paragraph which comes from "Soros on Soros" book. Timeless (so don't give me any crap about this book being from the 90's :) ).

Who predicted correctly market would be bullish from 26 Dec 18?

I did and you can see why. The signs were there. Admittedly, I played it poorly (did not add, closed too soon) ... Once again, having the right opinion is not as important as having the skills playing it correctly...

Did anyone ever write about why we had the crash in Oct 2018?

Unfortunately, I don't have access to the "pro boys," but my guess is that weak hands started to bail once Santa Claus rally didn't materialize ... Pros were letting it fall waiting till last moment to scoop up the bargains ... All clear in hindsight of course.

What are some low risk to reward ratio strategies?

Just thought I would share this ... Answer to Are there more profit opportunities by options selling strategies or options buying strategies? by Aaron Brown...

New to DOM reading, some questions and advice please

I didn't understand what "don't fade size" means. Do you mean if you see a large bid, don't short? The opposite of leaning on big size.
  6. Q

New to DOM reading, some questions and advice please

What does it mean? I thought leaning on size was one of the favorite strategies in the pits (from books :) ).
  7. Q

New to DOM reading, some questions and advice please

It sounds to me like you have more knowledge/experience of using the DOM than most *active* participants on this chat, so I am not sure what kind of input you are looking for. Everything you said about it, I agree with in general but I don't think you can trade purely off the DOM anymore (with...

How do market makers make money?

Me answering the question, does not preclude Robert or anyone else from answering your questions.
  13. Q

How do market makers make money?

I doubt it. It's their business not to be hurt by such events and they have the technology advantage to get out in time. The only people who got it on the chin are regular investors who were robbed out of their shares in a blink of an eye. It's absolutely ridiculous to me that MM are allowed...

Are highlights in Time and Sales dark pool orders

I was just pointing out that it's possible to have this happen. You may be right about dark pools. Actually, ADFN is not only dark pools ... It's an Alternative Display Facility which allows any trades which happen outside of the Exchanges to be reported on consolidated tape (like internalized...
  15. Q

How do market makers make money?

I don't either, but would it be fair to say that the less liquidity the more challenging it is?
  16. Q

Are highlights in Time and Sales dark pool orders

If you see print above the ask, it does not necessarily mean that this print happened at the same exact moment in time. For example: Market: #1 10.00x10.01 nbbo #2 100@10.01 trade at ask #3 200@10.00 trade at bid #4 9.99x10.00 nbbo Market Data (simoteneously): Feed1: #1,#4 Feed2...

Are highlights in Time and Sales dark pool orders

Usually quotes and trades come on different feeds and are not synched. Your provider then tries to consolidate these feeds into nice display as best as they can.
  18. Q

How do market makers make money?

Because they have the capital to short all the way up and then push it down all the way back down. You are talking about penny stocks. They don't need to be in position for the whole ride ... Load up and distribute ... Doesn't take much to paint the tape so weak money panic all at the same time.
  19. Q

What's one of your main desires?

Absolutely! But maybe something to remind yourself from time to time when things don't go your way. "When there is no desire, all things are at peace." - Lao Tzu
  20. Q

What are some low risk to reward ratio strategies?

I don't think I have ever come across an options strategy (which is multi leg and requires adjustments none the less), where understanding of Greeks would be optional! Why would a respectable prop firm advertise it this way? SMB University :)
