    Index Spread Traders

It added a lot of color! Thank you! Hm sounds a bit like orderflow trading :)
  2. Q

    Index Spread Traders

I like the first example, but not understanding this one. Isn't it equivalent to placing bracket orders so you only get filled on the breakout leg? What's the advantage of holding both and closing one at loss if they are volatility adjusted?
  3. Q

    Index Spread Traders

He said below, so I assume he is talking about very short term deviations that theoretically could be scalped? I'm sure he will clearify :) "all spreads are arb spreads in my opinion"

current prop strategies and prop vs retail

I think I misunderstood your original question. You are just trying to find a prop that best fits your trading style, not asking for their strategies. I haven't seen anyone openly sharing first hand prop experience here in a while.

    Index Spread Traders

Yeah, I think @REDP1800 is right about many things here ... I don't know why people get attracted to strategies which require execution quality that will never be available to them. Maybe because it backtests well(due to unrealistic fills). But I really like this thread, so would like to hear...

my summary or my understanding of Brooks price action

I watched some but it all looked pretty generic to me (obviously I only got a glimpse). My rule is not to pay for anything where I can't see the author trade it live(put his money where his mouth is). I haven't found any videos of him actually trading anything. If you doing a summary, it would...

    Index Spread Traders

I like the above statement. @REDP1800, I understand what you are saying, but isn't it possible to trade these on a bit higher timeframe than HFTs? Doesn't it sometimes take minutes or even hours? Or is that no longer considered spreading at that point but rather two directional trades?
  8. Q

current prop strategies and prop vs retail

Maybe you can comment on strategies which worked back then? Why would anyone tell you the strategies which are working at the moment?
  9. Q

Off the shelf software vs a mix of open source?

Why can't you use off the shelf products for back-testing, but use different platforms or build your own for real time? Unless your rules are so complicated that it would be a challenge to implement them twice. The only requirement I would have is that both must use same data source so that...

my summary or my understanding of Brooks price action

I'm curious if he's ever commented on how universal his method is - did he say it can be applied to forex? Does he use volume in his analysis at all? Not very familiar with his stuff.
  11. Q

    Index Spread Traders

Have you given a thought who you will execute through? I assume TOS is just for research and you are going to want to automate this.
  12. Q

Quant funds in trouble this time. Any insights into what went wrong?

Sorry for my ignorance but is it just an analogy or a scientific term? What does this mean in practice? If it's not deterministic, that would mean it cannot be automated well enough to get an edge? Thanks!

    Trade management: adjustments

I don't think these statistics apply to premium sellers. I'm curious why you chose this as something you want to pursue. Unless it's just a part of a larger plan that includes other strategies.

    Predicting Closing Prices

I would be curious to know the percentage your system is giving you a bullish signal in this bull market :)
  15. Q

    Trade management: adjustments

I believe one of tenants OptionsAlpha teaches is to only adjust the profitatable leg - never the loosing one. Isn't it increasing your risk in a losing trade? Kind of like averaging down? What do you guys think about this particular rule?

Almost everyone is lying. Because there's no such...

I am curious what made you realize this? What is it about forex specifically?
  17. Q

Managing risk of broker platform outage

I think risk transfer is what the best ones do. Taking excessive risks with own money is gambling, taking excessive risks with OPM is trading :) Didn't mean to take this thread off course, but I can't think of any better solution to the problem. It's not very practical to fund two accounts...

Managing risk of broker platform outage

I don't know if you will accept my answer, but when you get to the point where you have earned the right to put on highly leveraged positions, you should join a prop firm and risk their capital. Problem solved.
  19. Q

What did Jesse Livermore do wrong to blow up a few times in his trading career?

I understand your point and don't disagree. However, there is also another possible explanation. You often see top performing athletes keep participating past their prime even at the detriment to their health. They are not guided by greed, but by their competitive nature and their identity(ego?).
  20. Q

Any broker/platform offers auto-liquidate RM feature (like Rithmic)?

I was thinking that auto liquidate has the same "issues" as using stops ... Either too tight or too loose. Always puking at the worst time. The option of cancelling/blocking opening orders is much better. I believe Risk Manager would watch the accounts and give the trader a tap on the...
