    71.2 % Win Rate

I am really confused by this thread. Isn't the win rate dependent on the R:R that's chosen? How can you determine a win rate in isolation from the R:R? For example, I have a particular setup/trigger that tells me to put on a trade, but the win rate depends on how large a profit target I aim...

"fake it until you make it" useful for trading?

Courage is taking action despite fear. Assuming you have a trading plan that, if followed diligently, results in steady profitability, you can learn to act despite the fear of loss and uncertain outcome of an individual trade. You have to have a proven method though, a plan you can trust...

    Weinstein Trading and Fading

My goal, too. Seeing a price action pattern in a specific price context is so easy for me, but trying to define the pattern and the context in a way that can be coded is quite a challenge!

Bob, you brought back memories of us shorting APOL back in Jan 2009. I just looked at a chart and realized I was short about a dollar from the last high it's seen since. Why didn't you tell me hold that one for a while??? :D...

Why Do People Buy At A Top?

You have an entertaining case of outcome bias :p http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outcome_bias You pick a couple of stocks that fell sharply off highs after the outcome is known and call anyone who bought there a moron. I remember back in spring of 2009 I and several of my trading friends...

The government IS big business. Our representatives work for publicly traded corporations. If there's any statistically significant group of studies that reveals the likelihood of harm or the absence of benefit of a product or process, and a sector of large corporate interests would see their...

Around 3pm today that price zone allowed ample breakout airspace for a test of Tuesday's swing highs.

You have a good point and I sometimes do indeed "fade" the breaks of levels (my best trade in oil today was to fade the break of a "bearish-looking" bar), but it's not formally in my plan. The reason it's not formally in my plan is because I never took the time to do a meticulous trade by...

I like a 5-6 hour window on the 5-min chart and a 1.5 to 2 hour window on the 1-min chart. If the PA in that window is unclear then I'll open it up further until I can see a trend channel or the range extremes.

My biggest concern is who will be rabidly bidding up stocks when the huge baby boomer generation will be cashing in their holdings to withdraw from their retirement accounts. I don't know anyone in the subsequent generations that are invested, currently investing, or even considering investing...

The initial break of a trend line is far more often than not a failure. Unless it breaks off of a narrow consolidation from a far lower high (or higher low in the case of a downtrend reversal), chances of a fake out breakout are pretty high, so that's why I watch the initial breakout for the...

As others have pointed out, I called real time trades in CL and ES journals, also posted trade logs so folks could study their charts and figure out the price action ideas behind the trades, kept a journal here throughout my sad early years, informally mentored at least a dozen ET members via...

I don't have a link to all my posts about entering a strong trend, but what I do is this (based on intraday scalping using a 5-min main chart and 1-min chart for with-trend entries): 1. On the 5-min chart, I wait for a high or low of the day, a key trend line, or a narrow range consolidation...

Why Do People Buy At A Top?

The reason there's a buyer at a given price is that the buyer believes price is going higher, and believes the current price (or current price zone in the case of large traders) is a good value, whether it's initiating/adding to a long or covering/scaling out of a short.
