    What good is the DOM?

I know how to use depth of book for micro-scalping, but I don't trade that way. To make trading decisions I use a combination of the patterns printed when my chart divides price movement into bars and key S/R levels. I admit, though, that if I see unusually large size at a price level and my...

    The thing about edge

From what I've seen, db teaches you how to trade. I had no idea he started calling his trades. I'm simply shocked that someone who states "Just exit the short when the supply line is broken and take the first long thereafter" bought the NQ at 3400 and never switched to the short side during...

Do you use a stop or no?

Regarding CL, I learned a while back how to be on the positive side of those 20+ tick jumps far more often than not. CL is not an instrument to fight in any way, as the majority of those who've attempted to do so can confirm.

    What good is the DOM?

I've also been curious about this for a long time. Sometimes these huge orders disappear as soon as price comes near; sometimes they're real and price still tends to run right through even after the absorption of the entire order.

Do you use a stop or no?

I'm not sure if you trade CL (oil) much, but a stop loss order ensures that the market takes me out if price doesn't do what I expect it to. The instrument is notorious for running 20+ ticks in a second; I'll gladly take a few ticks slippage on a stop loss trigger than have to close in reaction...

    The thing about edge

You ask questions all day every day, but you're not a consistently profitable trader, are you? (My guess is that you're not a trader at all, but that's just a wild-ass guess.) dbPhoenix has active threads that demonstrate very clearly how to trade profitably in a manner that automatically...

jasinhbca's quest for discipline, knowledge & profits

A rule I implemented that made a huge difference trading CL is never exit a trade break even unless price has gone at least 10 ticks in my favor or a new trade signal arises in the opposite direction of my position.

Do you use a stop or no?

Think about it logically: There's no real loss until it's a realized loss. An unrealized loss can become an unrealized profit at any time, thereby making you whole again! Ergo, if you use a stop you're placing your account at risk of loss and we all know that risk management is...

    This seems very ominous

I have no idea what the definition of "success" is as applied to a new high price.

If You Trade One Instrument Only, How Do You Deal With This?

What I ended up doing to compensate for this in my backtesting is subtract a tick of profit and add a tick of loss to every entry or exit that involved a stop order. Sure there are many times when stops are filled at the stop price, but the extra slippage costs I padded into my analysis of...

    Combining Tape Reading with Charts

This is my #1 pattern for entry using a 1-min chart. I trade it only when it occurs in the context of key S/R on the 5-min chart. I generally enter early using a stop order to catch the turn following the test (the Step 2 test): http://thepatternsite.com/123tc.html

Diary of a very bad trader!

FWIW, I've been studying and day trading CL for about 4 years and the only change I've encountered is the volatility. The only adjustment I have to make is when the volatility picks up (today, for example), I don't expect to get into most of my trades with a tiny stop loss. My stop loss...
