    AAPL earnings after the close

What's with the trading halt? Why can't they just keep the stock live while the earnings news streams across the wire one little chunk at a time while blind traders hit their hot keys as confusion reigns - long, short, long, short, long, short, yikes! downside guidance, test that 85 level, OK...

    NoDoji's Day Trading Log

+ $354 Wanted to short UAUA and no shares available, so I asked my better half to please short on his IB platform. I would've shorted 2000 shares, but I didn't specify quantity, so he shorted 200 shares @ 13.86 and covered at 13.60 for a $52 gain. Stock set up for another short a little...

+ $354 Wanted to short UAUA and couldn't, so spent time with my better half shorting on his IB platform. First short was a tenth the profits it should've been because of 200 instead of 2000 shares shorted (my bad for not specifying the exact quantity )

Nervous to be long puts (fade rallies), not nervous to be long calls (buy dips)

It's not nearly as high probability a trade to buy puts on rallies as it was say a month ago. The moves are smaller now and so the bid/ask spreads can kill your profits. I recommend just shorting the stocks off rallies.

    Who's fading this move up?

I don't understand why so many ET-ers are always on your case, stock_trad3r. The laughter your commentary generates from me is adding years to my life :p All in good fun!

    NoDoji's Day Trading Log

+ $89 (Made $136 last Thursday but didn't post here.) CELG hitting lows, so I put on the trade @ 53.32 upon failure to make a new low as well as a break up through the 8-period SMA on the 3-min chart. Closed the position @ 53.63 for $155 gain when the stochastic indicated an overbought...

Taking 103K to 1.2million by Year End 2008

To those of you who think Neke's account statements are photoshopped and these kinds of gains are impossible, please take a moment to study how options work. Buying options let you leverage your $$ hugely. I invested $3300 on 5 AMSC calls at the end of a day last spring and upon the opening bell...

Taking 103K to 1.2million by Year End 2008

In your example, using your own strategy of taking a loss at no more than 10% of your trading account, your buy stop on the 2nd trade would be $105, the resulting loss would be $20,000, and the net gain of the two trades would be $30,000. The risk:reward ratio and ability to follow through on a...

Taking 103K to 1.2million by Year End 2008

Awesome gain, Neke! I think you can meet (maybe exceed) your target this year, especially with all the ridiculous prices the hedge fund liquidations have brought about. Any hint of good news (or even a lack of dire news) and those beaten up stocks will bounce hard! One question, though: Your...

No trades today. Left mid-morning to take care of a car repair. Later on the way back I said to my husband, "I've been watching MA all morning. It looks like it will retest that 160 resistance and as soon as it breaks thru I'm gonna ride it to 165. Got back to my desk and the move was over...

    Seriously, whats a Normal Market?

There are stocks that always have relatively large moves in any market - generally higher priced and heavily traded stocks such as AAPL, MA, CME, BIDU, FSLR, ENER, ISRG, POT. I was amused to see BRK.A (today's range $117,000-$122,000) come across the wire with a market-on-close buy imbalance...

    ET Official Bottom Watch Thread

Day traders, keep one eye on the DOW tomorrow; you'll want to be sure to cover your shorts before the "circuit breaker" is triggered, as who knows what kind of massive bull run might occur afterwards! NEW YORK (AP) - As harrowing as the stock market's plunges have been in recent days, they...
