    Don't want to reinvent wheel

You will need data and a programmable environment. Maybe Excel with some data from Esignal or Mytrack would do it? One little power tool of a software program that is very inexpensive is Sierra Charts. It comes with a built-in Excel-like environment and might be a real good way for you to be up...

Wal-Mart & The Economic Multiplier Effect.

In a way, Wal-Mart kind of pulls a capitalist coup. Their workers are subsidized by welfare. They jumped the shark when it was found out that all their "made in USA" advertising was bogus however, lost my respect for sure. I can't see Wal-Mart as a big vector in the shrinkage of the...

Wal-Mart & The Economic Multiplier Effect.

Globalization is good for a corporation that does not want Marxists to organize their laborers. Marxists are all up in arms about globalizaton because with the work spread all over the place and competitive in nature they can't really get people organized to strike. They want to stop the...

    Automated trading & IB

There were ways before, you had to put tick data as Data1 and other data as Data2 or build the other data in arrays from the tick data. Big programming bother, now you just select the kind of operation you want. Their indicators always would update intrabar but not the strategies. That is one...

NYT - Paul Krugman - 1928 and the Market Crash

I still think SA smoked dope all semester, now his term paper is due and he needs ideas fast. I offered to write him a doozie in another thread but so far, nothing. :D

Freedom of Religion gets the axe

Says a lot. Hey, Gordie is so smart he is going to figure it all out, like the last generation did, and the one before that... wait a minute, they didn't figure out anything that works did they?

Wal-Mart & The Economic Multiplier Effect.

South Central Los Angeles had a big political brouhaha last year over keeping a Super Wal Mart out because, basically, they are a non-union employer. They won, Wal Mart is not there. There are a zillion kids there that have no entry level jobs but hey, the liberals won.

    1st Trading Profit

Litton was being sued by the Navy over problems at their shipbuilding yard, their stock was $6 and they had enough cash to pay off all their debt and expand their whole operation 30%. I bought all the way up to $13 and eventually got a personal loan against the stock at the $30 level and used it...

    In the Meantime.

I started with the stocks figuring if I could trade the underlying I could trade the derivatives as well. The skill expansion route is to the options and eventually commodities for me, yours might be different. I've known some people that were drawn to commodities and never developed an interest...

    Hedge-fund manager's pay tops $1B

That Kmart deal was something else. They basically dumped all the stockholders in bankruptcy, issued themselves some new stock after that and started buying their way to the bigtime in Retail.

    trap of Statistics?

I got really tired of the in-sample/out-of-sample/ curve fitting/statistics arguments. If you think your system should work then trade it with very small size at IB. Their commish structure allows that. Real trading tells you a lot more than further "cyber/math space mental trading".

Only investing during major crashes/bear markets

Stein talked about averging down in quality companies and also he was not talking about starting to buy right when the prices crossed the average. It was not a tech analysis book at all but he made a good historical case for it working based on USA companies. I'm thinking that "indexes below the...

Only investing during major crashes/bear markets

Ben Stein wrote a book wherein he proposed buying only when the indexes were below their 200 week averages. It has been a while since I read it but he made the case. That might get it for you.
