    Traders who specialize in Shorting

TA for shorting is a tad different than for buying a dip. I do agree that the signals are easier to read. What I don't like is that the risk is greater on the short side, you can lose more than your original investment without margining. I missed a short trade once on an NYSE issue because...

Few security tips on computer systems.

I found that TS8 would not run in a user account. It has to have a superuser account at the minimum to run. I am not sure how that is for security and in fact if anybody knows, please inform us all. Max

Need some help with Automated Trading

A very easy and low cost development path is to get a copy of Tradestation 2000, use a third party DLL to interface to Interactive Brokers software running on the same computer. With another third party software you can probably get quotes from Interactive Brokers into the tradestation software...

    Bob Brinker's Market Timer

I never followed him closely but I catch the broadcasts occasionally. I heard him predict the $COMPX could hit 1100 shortly after the peak. I give him credit for that one. He seems to screen his callers so that only those singing his praises get on the show.

    Backtesting fundamentals

I have never backtested fundamentals but I spent a few days with a really good screener looking for correlations between tradeable moves and fundamentals, never found one.

    Objective Elliott Wave............

Thanks for the thread Tony. I am working way more on autotrading stuff than anything else nowadays. If I get the account size to where I need to trade longer term I really want to look into EW, meanwhile I added the recommended books to the wish list at Amazon.

Poll: What step are you on right now?

15-19 range is about all I can claim at this point.

Using Martingale with a proven strategy.

You can double your bets until you reach an account stop loss amount for sure. I'm thinking that really is a viable strategy in some systems, you just have to be willing to really eat the big one every so often and it better not happen 2,3,4, times etc. in a row!! :D

    Backtesting vs. Realtime results

You can write your backtest to evaluate the entry price after the fact and the exit as well, that way you can know if your limit order had a good chance of going through, expecially if you look at the volume at your price. That does not require any special software add ons either, you just have...

Oil guru says crude could hit $190 this winter

LOL. Biodiesel needs fertilizers made from oil to grow the stuff, hydrogen is just a way to store energy and needs lots of energy to produce it and transport it and there is no assurance that a hydrogen car would not be a ready-made terrorist bomb with huge explosive potential, solar supplies...

Refco and Financial Derivatives Market Meltdown.

Refco may not be the domino that starts the avalanche but derivatives are scary indeed. Leeson destroyed Barings bank, Barings was the oldest merchant bank in the world, and they were big. It bothers me that hundreds of years of success could be wiped out by over leveraging and a trader that was...

    Small trivia

I recall it, not because I was a market participant but because of the options player guy that I was trying to get some engineering work out of. After that day he was wandering around holding on to the walls, I guess he went from riches to rags. He just stopped coming to work after awhile, I...

    The New US Bankruptcy Law

Yes but credit card lenders will be free to make loans to even worse risks because they are more assured of collecting so re establishing credit after a default should be easier. Declaring BK is not real smart for most people, if they just do not pay the credit card and ignore the collection...

    my stomach hurts

Brandon buddy, it sounds like you are seriously overworked and your body is telling you to do something else. I have been there, I had to force myself to take a day off once a week and I also found that some real good knowledge about diet and supplementation was a huge help.

    Abuse amongst traders

I don't think most of these people talk so abusive in person. I did know one guy that was just about as offensive in person as lots of people are on ET via internet with hidden identities. He was the most widely hated person you could imagine. A fellow employee hit him with a car in a gas...

    Tradestation Data gap

I would love it if TS8 was changed so that I could have DTN satellite as a backup data source with transparent failover.

    IB Suggestions & Improvements

I was told by the IB help desk that the only way I can know if IB trades a specific OTC issue is to enter it into the TWS. It would be a lot better for me if I had access to a list of all the OTC issues on the IB website when I am screening out my stock universe for trading.

    otc automation

The liquidity can be a problem. Many of the otc issues have an average day of less than $1000 worth being traded, if you are 1% of the daily volume that is a whole $10 and with IB's commissions having a $2 round trip minimum your system has to overcome a 20% initial threshold. If you are 10% of...

    Inflation BLOWOUT!

are economists ever right?? I listen to none of them, absolutely not a single one. They have apparently never discovered the underlying causes of the business cycle as evidenced by their worse than random ability to predict ANYTHING. What did we hear all during the 90's?? Inflation. It just did...

    TS2000i vs TS8

People say TS8 costs too much but you get 1000 symbols and it is all integrated and working wonderfully. People say that if you can trade you can do it with any software but I did not find this to be the case. I have spent years developing systems, that work is frustrating and baffling enough in...
