When is Trump going to take credit for the stock market plunge?

The ES dropped to 2530, effectively testing the SPX 200ma. Can't get bearish until the market can close below and hold that. IOW... the last 2 days have been merely "trading noise." It's still a "BTFD market" until proven otherwise.

No Futures Trading Margin on IB today

Correct. Weak hands on low margin make for a lot of "forced" plays and higher volatility. IB's margins, both initial and maintenance are higher than exchange minimums... and therefore more conservative. By eliminating maintenance margins, they are being more conservative yet. That's all good...

No Futures Trading Margin on IB today

After the '87, crash and until the markets settled down, Refco required $50,000 margin per contract.... for the same reason IB is taking their action.

    ES Tests/Holds 200 Day MA @ 2530... BOJ Intervention?

With the BOJ owning 75% of the entire ETF market in Japan, wouldn't be surprised to learn of their intervention. Nikkei bottomed about 11:40PM EST, the same time as the ES bottomed @ the 200ma. Traders should be on the lookout for more of that kind of thing. FWIW....

Any suggestions for ETFs or Mutual Funds

Don't mean to be critical, but "lots/almost everything" would have been better than what you've played. Look around.

Which day is best day for rollover?

The "front month" changes on roll over day, and volume becomes higher than the expiring month's contract. Unless you have some specific reason to delay, it's best to roll over soon.... within a couple of days while the volume is still sufficiently high. There is generally no advantage to...

From $5000 to Trading for a Living. Is it possible to?

Still "NO". Not possilbe. Only IDIOTS would imagine it to be so. If you need $30K/yr for living expenses, you can't expect to be so smart to earn 600%/yr. Nobody has EVER done so.

Can we make alarm if Dow is down >2%

For perspective... Years ago declines in the market of up to about 20% were considered as merely "trading noise". Now some panic when the market is 2% off of its highs. Today's market players are waaaayyyyy too spoiled.

The CFTC thinks they can regulate bitcoin manipulation

One of the "problems" about about cryptos.... is that at any time the Feds can say, "we're going to regulate, yadayadayada"... If that hurts crypto owners/players, might be tough luck for the crypto market in general.

    An Unacceptable Tax Return

The IRS has returned the Tax Return to a man in Kansas City after he apparently answered one of the questions incorrectly. In response to the question, ..."Do you have anyone dependent on you?" the man wrote: "7.1 million illegal immigrants, 1.1 million crack-heads, 4.4 million unemployable...

Steve Cohen Needs to Prove Himself to Wall Street All Over Again

"...The hedge fund billionaire is trying to rebuild and show the government he’s squeaky-clean. But he has to show investors he hasn’t lost his touch...." Cohen and his firm were "disciplined" by the regulators for allegedly "illegally compensating brokerage firms for their informing him of...

Do I pay taxes on earnings for the year even if total account is a loss?

Correct. If you realized your losses on or before December 31, they are effectively deductible against gains. If after December 31, they are not. The government "caught onto this" and came to the conclusion that "all big gains will be taxed", but certain "big losses" will not be deductible.

Do I pay taxes on earnings for the year even if total account is a loss?

Well, "we're all profitable traders"... So why not spend $200,000 on a platinum Rolex? Same argument.... but that's not really the subject of this thread.

Do I pay taxes on earnings for the year even if total account is a loss?

It's ridiculous. To have the CPA "do" your taxes, you have to look over everything and be sure you have all of the forms. Then, he "enters the data you collected" and charges you a bundle. How stupid is that? The "effort" and "time" is in getting it all together. So... if the CPA enters the...
