The thing is too, with all the talk here of being careful around earnings, sometimes companies preannounce earninigs misses unexpectedly obviously and if you have a long position you lose. That's what happened to me with EMC. And $10k is chump change for some people here. The market has risks...

The thing about earnings too is that good news may already be priced into the runup as is being said but even if it's not the bump up usually isn't that great, depending on the stock. But if earnings are missed there's usually much more of a downside risk. 30% loss or more is actually not that...

I agree with this totally. The previous trades or your P&L have nothing to do with what is happening in the market right now and the best strategy for playing it. The P&L is obviously important but the best way to increase that is to forget the last trade in regards to it's P&L and just trade...
