Trading the EMD - S&P400 Midcap Emini

I just looked at the EMD DOM and the total size was only 16 by 12. It doesn't take much to sweep the book with that tiny size. Trade the EMD contract as it is not as how you want it to be. If you want liquidity, trade the ES.

    shocking IB Wire incident

IB has okay commissions for the low volume trader, but gets less competitive as volume goes up. Volume traders usually have to negotiate a best commission rate at most futures brokers. 5perside.com starts at $1.75 flat per side for ES and NQ. For 274 or more RT a month Transact Futures...

    shocking IB Wire incident

IB works fine for conservative futures traders. There are futures traders that don't require maximum intraday leverage and others that hold futures overnight. IB's main problem with futures is that their commissions are too high compared with other futures brokers.

Historical Tick Data: IB vs. OpenTick ?

If you want reliable historical tick data you have to purchase it. In realtime IB provides snapshot data every 100 to 300 milliseconds. High frequency IB backfill is 5 second bars. Opentick data is free, but not the highest quality.

BioComp Profit 8 - Trading the ES

OK, that makes sense as an average fill price of 857.92 for the 6 contracts. You said you placed at sell limit order at 857.75, so when you order was received by Globex there must have been a best bid at 858.00 for 4 contracts and second best bid at 857.75 for 2 or more contracts.

BioComp Profit 8 - Trading the ES

The ES trades at 0.25 increments so a fill at 857.92 is not possible. I've never seen any such odd price in ES time and sales. The proper fill would be at 857.75 or 858.00. I don't know what broker you are using, but you will have to ask them for an explanation of the very odd fill at 857.92.

There is no cash settlement for the COMEX gold contract. "In fulfillment of every contract of gold, the seller must deliver 100 troy ounces (5% more or less) of refined gold, assaying not less than 995 fineness, cast either in one bar or in three one-kilogram bars by an approved refiner. The...

    Computer Crash

You need to specify what you mean by "crash". A software or hardware crash? Is it the "blue screen of death"? Is it the computer shutting itself down? Hardware crashes can result from a number of causes such as bad power supply, dust blocking the CPU cooling fan or cooler, bad memory or...

    Tax question for managing funds

The paid manager cannot just leave their fees in a customer's account. Management fees normally accrue daily and must be paid out on a regular basis - monthly or quarterly. Management fees are subject to regular income tax and FICA tax. For the customer taxes are based on the net return...

IB income before taxes increased 52%

Of course there are plenty of things that IB could do to be a better broker, but cutting futures commissions to more competitive levels would be better for their business long term and save their customers money now.

    Tax help/info' please.

I've never heard of a broker providing Form 6781 to customers. Brokers report income and loss on Form 1099. The customer/taxpayer is responsible for transferring the information from the Form 1099s to Form 6781 and Schedule D. Go to http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f6781.pdf to see Form 6781...

IB income before taxes increased 52%

Brokerage: "Pre-tax margin increased to 47% for the nine months ended September 30, 2008, compared with 44% for the same period last year" With a very healthy 47% pretax profit margin it is long past time that IB lowered their futures commissions to more competitive rates. It is easy to find...

Futures trades are reported on Form 6781 (to get 60/40 long term/short term treatment) and appropriate numbers are then transferred to Schedule D. You will have to request Form 6781 and instructions or print them off of the IRS website.
