It was not a good trade as it bought a short term top and the stop was raised to 8160 thus getting stopped out for minus 20 on INDU.

You can't trade INDU. Use YM or ES charts if you want to do something useful. BTW you were stopped out on your "trade".

You have it completely backwards. The IB page you pointed to shows the calculation for the interest that IB PAYS you on your cash balances, not the interest that IB charges you. IB pays you interest on short sales cash proceeds, it does not charge you.
