Who wins with high Gas Prices?

The world is not using all the oil it produces. There are massive reserves yet to be even tapped. Those fields that have been tapped are all over the board - some declining, some not. Make no mistake about it - oil bulls have made the bloodiest racket ever about 'peak oil' at a time when...

Warren Buffet: We are in a long and deep recession the likes we have not seen

Take away their credit cards and see how long the wait is. The American Consumer eats, pays for gas, and even their candy bars with credit cards. And it's not out of convenience for most. Necessity. As for the unemployment rate, I'm sure you put a lot of stock in official fed figures...

Warren Buffet: We are in a long and deep recession the likes we have not seen

Buffet has the rarest of all commodities: common sense. The unstoppable and mythical American Consumer is mortally wounded, and the savers in Asia are not going to pitch in and buy all the useless shit (e.g. George Foreman Grills, Showtime Rotisseries, meds for restless legs syndrome, and...

Visa just gave the green light to short Mastercard

Short at will. All the pie sky people thinking V would blow the street away and smoke all consensus figures will be ripped a new one. You can stick a forward P/E of about 36 on this right now, and that's IF the consumer doesn't pull back on the plastic swiping (a very big if). And I love...

    An average American indebtedness?

That house is a real POS. It's probably not worth 15k. And the car, maybe 5k if it's in mint condition with under 40k miles. How do people do this to themselves?

    ETFC CFO resigned

Not just the CFO, but General Counsel, too. The resignation of the General Counsel (lead corporate attorney) is particularly worrisome, as it seemed to be a 'noisy' one. I think it's not at all outside the realm of possibility if not probability that something is seriously amiss at ETFC...

    VLO buy alert!!!!

You will implode with the non-integrated refiners until oil drops below $100, on a definitive bearish crude chart. You're going to buy refiners when they are closing facilities, and selling others off? When their margins are so battered they literally don't want to refine oil? It's a...

Why Let Insanity Stop Now? Clothing Prices To 'Soar' Due to Ethanol & Energy Costs

Also, from Roger Cohen: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/24/opinion/24cohen.html?hp " Right now, the biofuel market is being grossly distorted by subsidies and trade barriers in the United States and the European Union. These make it rewarding to produce ethanol from corn or grains that...

Why Let Insanity Stop Now? Clothing Prices To 'Soar' Due to Ethanol & Energy Costs

Make sure to write letters to Bernanke thanking him for destroying the U.S. dollar, and also an equal shout out to Congress and The White House for supporting farm subsidies that include paying farmers to grow crops, to not grow crops, and to give the corn/ethanol industry a 51 cent per gallon...

Robert Shiller: "Fed will cut rates to 0%"

The author of this article is insincere, at best, and a fraud, at worst. He accurately speaks of Shiller's views on housing, and then uses that to launch into a tirade about how gold, silver and oil should be 'hung on to,' in the (according to Shiller himself) 'unlikely' event we have another...

When Will Crude Hit $40/barrel again?

I can't believe all the asinine hype about oil. Commodities always go through boom-bust cycles. BRIC, blah, blah, blah.... Everything that's up now will be far less expensive in the future. It's always been that way, and will always be that way. People thought cheap oil would never...

Wal-Mart Rations Rice, this is out of control...

Do you have a link? This is insane. I need to send this article to a lot of people I know.

    Bears Baffled by Oil Highs

Landis, give it a rest. Some of us like these articles and actually get some good information from them. If you don't want to read them, don't. Regarding the article, I'd love to know what the real increase in oil consumption has averaged for the last 5 years. I've heard figures as...

Life is good for NYC landlords

Some parts of New York State are amazingly beautiful. Orange County is very nice. Most people who never have seen Michigan think 'Detroit.' They don't realize Michigan truly has some of the most amazing scenery in the states - take a drive through Traverse City, with rolling ground, and...

    Potash IPO next week

That's just a red flag that signals 'get ready to short.' But not yet.

Why are refiners up when oil is @ all time high?

Mean reversion means nothing in the one era crude breaks through $119 and the non-integrateds have to buy all their oil on the open market, and their margins get HAMMERED as a result. At this point, they can't grow their eps or margins because they will literally do worse by refining more oil.

Why are refiners up when oil is @ all time high?

UGHHHH!!!!!!!! Why are they pushing these higher when crude just busted through $119/bl?????? They are ruining my desired trade, and are committing suicide.

    Potash IPO next week

I'm not ready to short fertilizer stocks just yet, but I will at some point, because they will crash and burn as badly, if not worse so, than the housing and banking stocks.

Better Off Now Than 5 Years Ago?

I forgot about heating oil - yeah, the northeast got hammered with those increases. I'm telling you guys that Bernanke is a class A idiot, as are nearly all elected officials, as they campaign for a weak dollar, and campaign for biofuels and ethanol - they are making life miserable at the...
