Buffett 20% annualized gains over 45 years

Warren Buffett's investment results are heavily skewed in his favor for one very simple reason -- he does not have to account for idle cash. Let's run through an example. Mutual Fund Manager Bob has redemptions and deposits on a continuous basis and has to either buy or sell stock, or keep a...

Cash stolen from thinkorswim accounts, any advice?

If you knew anything about taxes and if the funds really were stolen you'd know that what you just said is absolutely, positively FALSE! Don't make comments about the tax code unless you know it inside and out and if you don't do the research to find the correct answer. The OP would not be...

Many borrowers in default stay put as lenders delay evictions

They got you over a barrel with that damn credit score. Give up your house and try and get a job with a 500 credit score. Roughly about 50% of employers check credit scores as part of a routine background check and the 50% that don't aren't worth working for. What a fucked up world eh? The...

Many borrowers in default stay put as lenders delay evictions

You don't get it. By letting the tenants stay in the house the bank gets to mark-to-whatever makes their balance sheet look healthy, rather than the actual market price. If they take possession they have to pay all the expenses that come along with owning the house and try to sell it at what...

To Be or Not to Be: Greece Bailout

How about we let Goldman Sachs bail out Greece and forgo all those bonuses for however long it takes to get Greece back on track. After all, GS is the company that wrote all that garbage currency CDS that allowed Greece to under-report their liabilities. Exactly how much crap is GS going to be...

Fannie Mae seeks $15.3B in gov't aid after 4Q loss

C'mon man, with a budget of 3.8T 15.3B is a pittance. Unlimited money for FNM -- hooray!

Hypothetical disclaimer required when posting actual results ?

I don't know about websites but I've managed a hedge fund in the past and currently run an LLC CTA firm and I am not required to use that hypothetical disclaimer. I find it odd that a website that has audited results would be required to post that disclaimer unless they are doing some simulated...

    Were your Hotmail addresses stolen?

Got the same thing. I was some Canadian Pharmacy BS. Fortunately, I didn't click on it but since it came from a friend I know a number of people who did. It downloads a bunch of backdoor Trojans.

    The Banks Master Plan

Exactly. When you let a car sit out in the cold it dry rots. You start it up and you got oil and fluids all over the driveway. The same thing happens to a house. If you don't run water through the pipes for a certain length of time then....then hopefully the chump who buys that house knows a...

Never add to a losing position?

If you have time on your side averaging down is a great strategy and one I use all the time. Like any strategy though, it has it's drawbacks. Ask Bill Miller what it's like to average down into a stock like FNM. If you're gonna use this strategy you better know your shit.

    Buffett's Partner: 'It's Over' for U.S. Economy

I believe he would live up to his promises but this type of change (shivers as I type that word) would be painful. Those who are currently on Government Subsidies would be hurt badly. Imagine your Medicaid being pulled from under your feet. Now imagine that those people vote. See where this...

That's it I give up line has been crossed

High IQ? Brilliance? Most of your replies were one-line drivel. Why do you -- sorry, "did" you -- feel so obligated to save Americans from themselves anyway? You don't think Americans understand the gravity of the situation? Study the history and evolution of oppressive governments. You'll...

    Wall Street's Bailout Hustle

"They're hiding all this stuff from their shareholders," says Ritholtz, who was disgusted that the banks lobbied for the rule changes. "Now, suddenly banks that were happy to mark to market on the way up don't have to mark to market on the way down."
