    Two streamers side by side

Don't remember for sure, but I didn't think that Smith Barney and Edward Jones have streaming quotes available? Ameritrade is generally pretty good. Fidelity active trader pro should be good too. Ameritrade is not tick by tick. You will get 3 or so updates per second even if a stock...

    Two streamers side by side

Both plans would work, though frankly dumping Scottrade for a better broker (plan C) would be a better approach

    Two streamers side by side

Scottrade's data is really bad. The initial quote represents the standard cumulative quote. All updates however are for the primary exchange only. The quickest way to see this is to just look at the volume - initial value you get will be approximately the same as other sources. The moment an...

TD Ameritrade: not ure typical mom & pop boiler-room, or is it?

The two companies are going to continue to be totally separate for at least 6 months, and the sites are not likely to be merged for at least 9 to 12 months (conservative estimate). So I do not think the work is to be scrapped. I don't follow TDW stuff much except when they change something...

TD Ameritrade: not ure typical mom & pop boiler-room, or is it?

TD Waterhouse has a system that it got when it bought RJT. Decent user interface for a Java app and good datafeed. However, it would be highly unlikely for Ameritrade to switch over to that system. I am pretty sure this whole thing is not for technology :)

help me customize a dell laptop

how many " home-office, additional trading offices, airports, hotels, high-speed-connects at Starbucks, fast-food joints, Kinkos" do you connect to concurrently? (and having a page open in a browser does not count) You are misunderstanding the limitation of XP Home. Basically, PRO has...

    IB TWS Charts

QT uses whatever you specify. If you enter the symbol into QT without specifying the exchange, then it uses SMART. If you enter ISLAND:DELL for example, then it will be showing you data specific to ISLAND

    Charts, software, and broker ?

The only thing Scottrade used to be good enough for was index quotes, and lately not even that. Just keep repeating "Friends don't let friends trade at Scottrade. Friends don't let friends trade at Scottrade. Friends don't let friends trade at Scottrade. ...... You get the picture. As...

    Best Futures broker?

Kitara_77, commissions, speed of execution, and general feedback from our clients regarding their services. There are other brokers that QT supports that have futures. I did not metion them because either I do not have sufficient experience or knowledge about the quality of their futures...

    Best real-time charts for scalping.

You can also use QuoteTracker with IQFeed or various other datafeeds, and you CAN place orders through Quotetracker as well, if you are trading through one of the dozen or so supported brokers. Jerry Medved http://www.quotetracker.com

    Good API's

I would have to agree there. We much prefer to work with TCP/IP APIs as well, but not always possible. Seems that most brokers will have at least a local module that that manages connections, reconnect logic, server load balancing etc on the client side. Some are TCP based APIs but have local...

    software with free news?

NOTE: The free news in QT that comes with the main install is go.com (really bad). We do have a Yahoo configuration available on request, which is much better. email support@quotetracker.com if you want that one. The streaming sources are generally much better. QuoteTracker supports quite a...

    Programs

QT does not currently support Global Futures, but we do support PATS and are about to do add Global, so you would be able to use them as the datafeed. You could then add IQFeed for backfill which would cost $20 per month. QuoteTracker will automatically handle symbol conversion for most symbols...

    Programs

QuoteTracker will do the trick - has tons of tech indicators. Works with various datafeeds and brokers. Software cost (if you want to register) is $5-$7 per month. Datafeed cost would depend on the one you select. If you use your broker, there is no charge. If you use a subscription datafeed...

    IB Backfill Improvements

Because each record is a point in QT. But whether you store it as 4 records with 50 points or 200 records with 1 point each is irrelevant. There is no way to tell how many of the points traded at the high, low, close or in between. No way to tell the order in which those events occurred. If...

    IB Backfill Improvements

at the time QT reads in the backfill data and converts it to its own format, it has no idea what frequency tick charts you are going to use. Therefore, if you got a 1 minute bar with OPEN=100 HIGH=101.1 LOW=99 CLOSE=100.2 # of trades=200 VOLUME=80,000 QT must be able to take that data...
