We need to take out 1100 on the spooz

This is the battle line. If we take it out on volume we run to 1250. If not I'm looking for more sideways zombie-death-knell marching for the next 40 days.

Goldman loses money on just one trading day in Q3.

We killed the baseball analogy a few pages back after it was taken too far, much like you are doing. You cannot parallel every facet of baseball with financial markets. When you say "own the market" you make it sound like GS is doing something illegal to post those types of numbers. You do...

GS, like most IBs(i know, they "don't exist" anymore. *wink*wink*) makes more of their money making markets. They don't care what direction the markets go, they make money on the movement.

Goldman Sachs traders receive H1N1 vaccine before dieing children at local hospital

I don't even think the top 25 at large companies should get it. The high-risk people go first. As for how it's distributed, that's where the cluster f is right now. I have no doubt there are many people at GS that are high-risk, not to mention the children of the people that work there that...

Goldman could be an all star short...

Most of their income comes from "Trading Activities" - which means making markets. Unless people stop trading securities and derivatives they will continue to make money. Don't hate.

Goldman Sachs traders receive H1N1 vaccine before dieing children at local hospital

I don't understand why this is new-worthy besides the fact that the media is hyping h1n1. Companies with health clinics do yearly seasonal vaccinations EVERY YEAR. If anything blame the govt. for distributing the vaccination the same way it has always done. The OP is trying to spin this into...

what's your explanation? some conspiracy theory involving UFOs and bigfoot?

Goldman loses money on just one trading day in Q3.

I'm not disputing anything you stated - of course there is a disconnect between large players and the retail guys. My underlying point is that retail can still make tons of money and that trading styles need to take the manipulation into account. Don't want to get stopped out? Don't use stops...

Link to Lewis complaining about his competition doing better then he did. Oh wait, GS didn't make sub-prime loans, they just traded the derivatives. =) It's not that I have time on my hands, it's that I know where to quickly get this info because it's all been in the news recently.(past 5 years)

The problem is that the lottery is 100% gambling. You can easily scale in and out of a swing trade for profits the majority of the time. Getting $0.30 on T is not even close to the same as getting 6 numbers in a drawing with a drum of numbered balls.

Goldman Sachs bet on housing meltdown -- and won

No offense but I'm not sure I wanted to be grouped in with you. I've seen some of your other posts.....

Show me this documentation that is so public. Links please showing those were the [only]people he talked to daily. You also forgot Bernanke, which he should have been talking to daily. You've just demonstrated how FUD gets started.

See, that's the thing: it's not clean data. It's data that is changed to fit the context of the post. The only way for the other firms to have similar numbers is if they have similar people, and they don't. You are discounting the impact people have on running a business, which is where...

But again we're comparing baseball to finance. As much as we'd like it to be an apples-to-apples comparison they are vastly different. I was only comparing one aspect: the fact that one organization can be successful a statistically inordinate number of times.

Goldman loses money on just one trading day in Q3.

Let me rephrase: the best and brightest that were going to wall st went to GS. i don't want to get off track as we're talking about IBs and trading. Other firms make tons of good money too. Bear made a ton in the 80s and 90s. A TON! (I agree though that more of those that recently went to...

Goldman loses money on just one trading day in Q3.

They have almost 1 trillion dollars under management and have hired the top graduates from the top schools over the past 50 years. Why should they not be making returns trading like that??? Why would the supposed best firm not act as such? You guys are making this way too complicated. The...
