25 million to lose $600 enhanced unemployment...So they say....

Did they though? Latest word is that the Trump administration wants to dispense with actually checking if the PPP businesses did keep their employees, so I guess we'll never know. And that's before you start looking at if those companies would have kept their employees without the PPP. I know a...

Coronavirus, Round 2: This Virus Doesn't Give a $hit about You!

This whole "we don't have to worry about this because only people with underlying conditions die of it" thing is absolute bullshit and I'd like to put it to bed once and for all. First of all, almost every American has an "underlying condition". About 40% of Americans are obese, that's an...

New York Democrats Want To Tax Stock Trades As State Revenues Plummet

I stand corrected, didn't realize the FTT actually technically is already on the books in NY. Agree that there's zero chance of it happening. Not only because it wouldn't work, but because it would be about as popular as an additional tax on corn in Kansas given who at least the majority of the...

New York Democrats Want To Tax Stock Trades As State Revenues Plummet

Are any of those folks NY state legislators? That's the allegation of the article and the subject of the thread.

New York Democrats Want To Tax Stock Trades As State Revenues Plummet

Let's look at what you just said reveals about what you really know about news. Yahoo News, that's a "liberal news source"? You know there's no actual Yahoo News organization with reporters who write stories, right (clearly you don't)? They are simply a news aggregator who publish news stories...

New York Democrats Want To Tax Stock Trades As State Revenues Plummet

Would love to see a quote from a NY state legislator "openly pushing for these taxes"? Should be easy for you to find, you seem so sure of yourself on this you must actually have a source rather than just deciding that you know what NY state democrats are pushing for better than they do?

Binary options - any pros at all?

The fourier transform is an electrical engineering thing and I was a newly graduated electrical engineer when I looked at it, so it was right up my expertise ally and I mistakenly thought/hoped there weren't enough other EEs in finance so they missed what seemed obvious to me. The blissful...

Binary options - any pros at all?

If prices were cyclical or "waves" then by the definition of those two words they would have a frequency of those cycles or waves. If they have a frequency, then you'd see it show up when you did a Fourier transform of the time series, again by definition of the Fourier transform. I saw...

NY wants to try a FTT

You're on. And I'm not sure we'll be out of business. Depends on what the tax looks like, what/how frequently you trade, and what the response of the market is as far as developing alternatives or workarounds. If anything past attempts at FTTs (which I generally agree are a bad idea) have...

NY wants to try a FTT

Passage, signed by the President and becomes law? If so I'll take it.

NY wants to try a FTT

Schumer for sure, especially when it comes to the NYC finance industry who he actually represents as a NY senator.

NY wants to try a FTT

Yeah, I know but I didn't want to take advantage of you in the spirit of intellectual honesty per our original discussion. Absolutely accepted!

Thanks for the reference. Oddly Lei Hong wrote that paper and apparently disappeared off the face of the earth at least from an academic perspective (https://www.researchgate.net/scientific-contributions/2065255981_Lei_Hong) and he hasn't responded to my email, so I wonder what happened to him.

NY wants to try a FTT

You're on, good luck to you as well! In all fairness, I'll even take the Trump win part off the table. If he wins the bet is just off since it wasn't part of our original discussion.

NY wants to try a FTT

Accepted, and just to clarify it needs to make it out of committee and be voted on by the entire House and Senate.

NY wants to try a FTT

Given that we weren't fucked in 1944 or 1984 or 2005 or....well any time when taxes were higher (and deficits were lower) than they are today, I'm not sure why we're fucked now? Because Trump has created historic deficits and debts and you're about to start caring about that now?

New York Democrats Want To Tax Stock Trades As State Revenues Plummet

Most of us can understand the difference of reporting on what someone in a party is actually proposing or doing vs speculation by a reporter on what they might do. Can you?

NY wants to try a FTT

If its passed, absolutely. Note she's talking about a global tax. That's very different than a NY or U.S. tax, which of course is idiotic because trading just moves elsewhere.

NY wants to try a FTT

Not something Schumer, Pelosi, or Biden have ever indicated an interest in and not in the platform. Care to place a small $10,000 wager to the charity of the other's choice on that, you seem pretty certain?

25 million to lose $600 enhanced unemployment...So they say....

Agree with all except the fixing of exchange rates. Central banks can certainly influence exchange rates by the interest rates they set, but fixing them is enormously difficult as many a country has found over the past 50 years when their currency pegs failed disastrously.
