Just read a note from Ryan Krueger on Minyanville.com talking about substantial recent insider buying in material stocks. Makes sense that with the raw material prices falling the margins on these should expand. XLB or VAW looks like a good way to play this group and the risk reward is good...

Looks good here, long dated calls, especially paired with long dated refinery (VLO/FTO) calls and selling some short dated USO call spreads against the position.

I think this explains it: Once you consider that the crack spread is computed in terms of the benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude, the situation doesn't look so dire. No one in her right mind would run WTI when she had the ability to run heavy stuff available at a $28+/barrel...

Would this account for the large difference in FTO and VLO margins? 16% vs 5.5% respectively.
