Giuliani: Wall St bonuses help economy

Are you a communist by any chance? Reason I ask is that capitalism advocates efficient allocation of resources. This means that firms that can't make it without government support don't get to keep the best human capital, they lose it to more efficient and competent firms.

    what happened to vicotor neidhoffer

If those two brothers were really smart they would have each employed essentially opposite strategies with their funds and pooled their fees under the table of brotherly love, collecting their 4% from the rich and gullible in good times and bad. Sometimes competition is asinine.

40% Of the World's Wealth Has Been Erased....Bailout $4 Trillion....

If you want to be serious about it and make a tax effective you tax cash or cash equivalents over a certain threshold (ie over what mom and pop have put away in cds for their retirement) for both individuals and businesses. You have to disincentiveize people keeping money in nonperforming assets...

How did Anek make a 100 grand today?

Are you also not sure it is possible to lose $100K in a day? Both sides of the sme coin, both not only possible but done with more consistency than many can imagine by masters of this craft we call trading (not that I am one by any means) especially during periods of high volatility.

Joe Blow Needs Spending Money, Not Tax Cuts...Is this guy serious???

In lieu of a major tax overhaul like that proposed by the independant/bi partisan folks at fairtax.org, the simplest and most effective tax stimulus would be to eliminate the payroll tax for both the individual and employer.

Poll- High school diploma or GED to vote

In other words a positive outcome for all. Maybe people can choose to EITHER vote for who is hot and who is not (candidates drawn from the most popular reality TV series of the year) OR who will be Prez (traditional selection of candidates), no one can vote in both elections. Whoever is...

Poll- High school diploma or GED to vote

How about a simple test on the issues and the candidates positions rather than something as arbitrary as an educational marker. 30 simple multiple choice questions, on government, economics, foreign policy, candidate's positions etc. If you get at least 60% right your vote gets counted, if...

    should cds be banned

Yes according to Soros, or at least limited to hedging actual positions and not to be used for speculation per se. http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/49b1654a-ed60-11dd-bd60-0000779fd2ac.html?nclick_check=1

    the 825 billion spy trade

Are you serious, that is what you attribute our current problems to? The Bush tax cuts were a) too small, b) poorly constructed and targeted , and c) have little to nothing to do with the current crisis the financial system faces and at most, discounting any positive stimulus they might have had...

    the 825 billion spy trade

Even better, cut taxes by $825B and get some REALeconomic activity going rather than some fake pump and dump, otherwise know as a BUBBLE! I think the economy has had enough of artificially generated bubbles for a while don't you? Ofcoures as a trader another bubble to short the crap out of is...

    Today - Jan 21 2009 is a significant bottom

After having reveiwed the stimulus package I am less sure of how far this rally can go. The US bank of trash as I read someone on ET call it, is probably the best bet for a decent rally from here but am getting nervous.

AIG Said to Pay $450 Million to Retain Derivatives Employees

Fair enough but unfortuantely that is not how our system works. When Lucent was driven in to the ground by its idiot CEO no one said , hey lets bail out the poor schmucks who spent a life time working their asses off and lost their pension due to their bosses incompetence. No the stock price was...

Former AIG executive gets 4 years in prison for $500M fraud

This is what we need to see more of, some accountability. As bitter as it must have been for Greenburg at the time to get ousted from AIG, in retrospect he is likely giving thanks for Spitzer :)

AIG Said to Pay $450 Million to Retain Derivatives Employees

How can you say that after the $billions that AIG has received to keep it afloat. Let them lose the traders to a firm that hasn't been so incompetently managed that they can't afford to pay their own stars. I too know people on the street who are going through tough times and I don't wish...

80% On WallStreet Paid Bonuses (Thanks Taxpayers!) Unhappy w/Amount

If he is so valuable then let him move to a firm that is not having to take tax payer money to pay his bonus. People are only as valuable as the market says they are. It makes no sense for our tax dollars to pay to subsidize someone's salary in any industry other than possibly defense...

Woman lost 3.8 million (everything) with Madoff

Too few can see reality for what it is Jem, my hats off to you and your objective and yet at the same time optimistic perspective. That's the frame of mind we need to drag ourselves out of the current mess. You can't fix what you can't even acknowledge. I heard a guy on NPR who had been...

Woman lost 3.8 million (everything) with Madoff

Good posts the 4 posters above. "Should" is one of the most destructive words in the englsih language. Life is not fair, not even close. How you deal with the set backs is what sets you apart, Allen and Jem, wishing you both the best. The fact that you are both doing what you can to improve on...
