Here is the full text of the most recent review from the 5th link posted above: Kev2128 - Dec 04, 9:27 PM Ok guys i'm issuing out an alert for those who don't know about a broker named Nonko Trading http://www.nonkotrading.com Complete scam and i'm happy i didn't open an account here! I have...

    Prop Firms

Ya, it's based on trader reviews and from a buddy of mine who is in a chat room where traders were discussing the firm. Usually this is how it starts, before traders figure out they are being duped and several threads begin to appear on ET regarding the same...

    WTS alliance with T3 Trading

Total capital matters since it's all "firm capital" and the way you would define your "Class C" capital risk is as a percentage of TOTAL capital. WTS took traders who only had $2,500 of capital, so let's pretend these traders migrate over to T3. Since we know the amount of members' equity was...

    WTS alliance with T3 Trading

Yes that's true, however as I posted above, T3 does not rely exclusively on daytrading. From their most recent SEC focus report (2013), here are some amounts to consider: Securities Owned: $26,662,904 Securities Sold, Not Yet Purchased: $27,889, 888 The amounts due from broker stood at...

    3x etf question

The common theme in the 2x and 3x prospectus is that the levered ETF's return is supposed to represent the change in underlying value for a single day, and that's it. Once it's held beyond a single day, then the risks of liquidity, market and other risks associated with a leveraged instrument...

Best live trading room on the net?

A trading buddy of mine looks at the picks from these guys, and he says they are the real deal and no b.s.. I haven't used them as I prefer trading with my own watchlist, as I've found that chat rooms for equities cause a distraction, but that's just my opinion. Check them out and best of...

    trader vs. investor question

Is it possible to have TWO separate retail accounts (one for trading, one for long term investing), and only specify the mark-to-market for the trading account?

Prop Trader and Wash Sale Rule

No, you are trading "firm capital" and as a member of the firm, your individual trades are not subject to the wash sale rule. You receive a K-1 statement from the firm which shows your P&L, of which a copy is sent to the IRS. The wash sale rule applies to retail traders who trade as a business...

    3x etf question

In theory they should provide the exact opposite returns for a single day, however they can vary due to the difference between the market price and NAV. Also, the gross expense ratio is slightly different for each. Check out the prospectus and fact sheet for more info on these ETFs...

    Prop Firms

I'm not sure why you felt the firm was "fishy" however there are some concerns are being voiced at the moment regarding Nonko. Those of us who have had the unfortunate encounter with shady firms know all to well when things are about to go sour, so here's a heads up: when you log into DAS Pro...

    VXX

Good points. XIV tends to hold its gains after drops in volatility, until the VIX starts to spike erratically, then VXX will have huge short term gains, before it begins to tank yet again, until it does a reverse split. Then the process repeats all over. In any case, the VXX/XIV trade has...

Hedge Funds Shut as Managers Struggle in Year of Two Percent Returns

Yes, it's true that blue chips had a great run. My guess is the hedge funds in question made very concentrated bets on a specific theme, and if those trades went sour, then the losses mounted to the point where they had to close. In fact, the article quoted mentions a few funds that made bets...

    WTS OVERNIGHTS Problems

My guess is you're with WTStrading, not WTSprop, which is the U.S. firm that just merged with T3. A prop firm can decide whether or not to allow for overnights based on their net capital, which can change at anytime. If you're trading for a "sub of WTS" then perhaps the sub had to make the...

Be careful if you are at Suretrader....

From their homepage, at the bottom: "Licensed by the Securities Commission of The Bahamas to carry on the business of a Broker Dealer and Investment Advisor." Also from their "About Us" tab on the Suretrader.com site: "SureTrader is a division of Swiss America Securities, Ltd., founded in...

    Topsteptrader

There are several traders passing the newly designed "continuous combine" so the move to eliminate the time limit was a smart move. They also changed another rule, now the passing # of days is 45% (the old rule was 55%). Again, this is biased in favor of the trader, just like the prior rule...

    Topsteptrader

Ya, go figure. It would make zero sense to even request such a combine for approval unless you can trade more lots to start in the live account. Since the new rule is 2 lots regardless of combine, then paying extra for any type of special combine is rendered moot.

Do i qualify to be a prop trader?

I agree with the profit split, not having desk fees and "super low risk" as far as up front expenses, and it's certainly a better approach than "blowing up" your own futures retail account vs. paying for a combine to "find out" if you can do it. However, TopStepTrader is not a real "prop firm"...

Do i qualify to be a prop trader?

You can try Chimera for their training program, however they trade equities, and you'll have to get your Series 56 license. And unlike other firms that promote "educational courses" Chimera doesn't charge for training.

Futures trading for a prop firm

Well, in the above model, as long as you are net positive from the start, then you can maintain the live account and keep building into more lots. If you screw anything up within the first 10 days, then you're back to sim, so not much margin for error. Regarding other props, there's another...

Futures trading for a prop firm

Yes, if you pass the combine account, then you get the funded account. Keep in mind, however, that you can only trade 2 lots maximum to start in the live account. To build more size, you have to build a profit cushion. The account cannot go back to a "zero" balance. So although you are not...
