Right. You never know, but you hopefully tip the odds in your favor...by a lot ideally. I didn't define what I saw well enough, but Im figuring out a way to quantify the combined slopes mathematically. Hopefully it will work. Good trading.

    My First Journal

When I first did it I used a combination of HHs or LHs and it seemed to work very well in defining the prevailing trend, but when I looked back at the HH and HLs I had marked they weren't HHs or HLs per se, they were actually significant HHs or HLs. Meaning price had retraced 3 or 4 times but...

The frustration is mounting! I do 40 tests and then realize something wasn't well defined enough. So now I have to go back with the definition and do them all over again. Damnit!!!!

Has anybody taught a close relative how to trade?

Education was never meant to be a means to success, or wealth. What exactly is this foundation you mention? I'm sorry but its not there. College now is simply a means to an end. Don't take my word for it, go conduct a poll. Ask 25 college students why they are in college and see what they say...

Planning to buy a home soon

True. Also the AMORT. schedule on a 30 year fixed is set up to where the VAST majority of your payments for the first couple years go to interest.

That makes sense. Like you said, it kind of boggles your mind and we can only handle so much at one time. Thanks for the kind words.

Haha turn it on and go to the beach. I hear the coding is pretty tough though.

Has anybody taught a close relative how to trade?

I could expand, but I don't want to be argumentative. I will say this: You are agreeing with me. Going to school for "financial security" is not what school is supposed to be about. It has been made that way through the years. The qualities that make you successful aren't tangible and they...

    My First Journal

I was in the shower thinking about the common factors that I am starting to get together and I had a sort of epiphany. I don't think recognizing and cataloging them is enough. Well maybe its enough, but I think I should be doing more. For example lets say I noticed that price always behaves a...

I have the opposite problem of every losing trader who posts a journal

IMHO Their edge isn't based on their own analysis, so they don't trust it to work as much as they would if they put the time and effort into it and could see what the market is telling them. Also, I believe that mental discipline is a huge part of trading and if not addressed no profitable...

    Can I do this?

Despite what you say, I have a feeling you will read this. So you are the first person to respond to my thread saying I'm trying to take the easy way out by using "crutches", but you weren't talking to or about me? You then rattle off something about all newbies wanting to get something...

    My First Journal

Wow I'm getting somewhere. It looks (LOOKS) like I am able to spot a RET pretty consistently. Not every RET by any means, but when a certain amount of my specifications are met it turns out to be a RET the VAST majority of the time. I'm far from finished though and the results could end up very...

    My First Journal

I'm now using the common characteristics I've found in RETs together. I've printed out around 20 charts and will note the conditions under which at least 2 (I have 5) of my characteristics come out in the chart. For example If X and Z happen, did that turn out to be a RET? What percentage of the...

Has anybody taught a close relative how to trade?

I agree 100%!! But what you need to understand is in THIS day and age, it is. Kids these days are taught to idolize MONEY (not education). Kids these days are taught to idolize MONEY (not integrity). Kids these days are taught to idolize MONEY (not ambition). So what do we go...

Has anybody taught a close relative how to trade?

True. With a degree he will be assured at least a mediocre job. IMO it's not worth the money and time you spend. If you don't go with the desire to simply learn for the sake of learning then it's pretty much wasted on you and the only reason for going is the one I just mentioned. I'm 21 and...

I dont want to turn this into an oil thread, it seems more about the PA which is great, but I hope you don't seriously believe that.

Has anybody taught a close relative how to trade?

college is a poor investment these days if you ask me. I say teach him tenacity, discipline, and to think big. These will help succeed in trading and anything else he might encounter. Much better than the microwaveable education they sell at college these days IMHO
