Yes, Pelosi might have been hammered when he opened the door, and that would explain a lot. But according to the video, Pelosi walked to DePape after opening the door and before DePape hit him with the hammer. That's a part that doesn't make sense (to me).

Here is a strange part of the incident where Pelosi opened the door to the police and walked back to DePape (timestamped). The police could probably settle the controversy on what happened when they arrived if they release their bodycam footage (unlikely to be done soon).
