Looting in New Orleans..a new low for americans...and why we are minimizing the effec

I think it's both about "payback-time" and about mindless thugs. They are crazy bastards, but they seem to be warring against police and the establishment, while lashing out at everyone. Seeing reports of how it is being a black father in the southern states, it's no surprise they're...

Looting in New Orleans..a new low for americans...and why we are minimizing the effec

The US is and has always been a very race-conscious/-centered country. In contrast the UK is very much about social-class, social layers. Race will continue to play a big role in the US for a long, long time. It's cemented into the US' history, tradition, laws and regulations.

    Oil Prices

Bush: "Don't buy gas if you don't need to .." Hehe, I have some experience from some other types of shortages ... because of strikes. That's some of the surest sign to just run out and buy what you can get. I imagine people filling their bathtubs and swimming pools. .. and what's about...

2005 ... The year of the Black Christmas ?

Ouch. Given the latest events, some are going to have a very tough period ahead of them. The new millennium sure has been a pressure cooker.

    Oil Prices

What business is the Bush family tradition again ? :D Maybe it's not fully intentional, but the high prices doesn't *hurt* their pockets ...

    Bear Market Ahead

Now ... .. the REAL interesting thing is how the re-insurers will be dealing with this. Terrorism, wars, destruction - it takes a hefty toll on reinsurer's no-longer-so-deep pockets. Luckily, it all comes back in form of more expensive services, products for consumers - as well as nice...

    OIL $70, gas shortage coming

    Oil Prices

Steve Forbes may be seeing pigs flying next year too, but crude closed at US$ 69. It seems like a supply-demand problem to me, but I guess Mr. Forbes find that naïve. Labelling the (rather well known) larger cut of China, India etc. as "speculation" is pitiful at best. On the other hand...

    Oil Prices

And at US$ 70.80 today it's not that far away ... The market seems to have a funny way of keeping a lid on some markets, while other markets in some parts of the world take a obvious tumble.

UDP is also a very fast and efficient protocol ... however - reliable ? I don't think so.

    Oil Prices

I understood that world production is around 83 mn barrels per day, and current consumption is around 82 mn barrels per day. China uses around 6 mn barrels per day for it's 1.3 bn inhabitants, and the US uses around 21 mn barrels for it's under 300 mn inhabitants. Things are not going to...

    Excel DDE + IB

DDE is flawed - that's why MS came up with RTD. DDE has noe guarantees that data will get delivered - i.e if your Excel app is busy recalculating cells, then any ticks via DDE won't get delivered. DDE is at best dicy. The best interface to IB API seems to be the Java API where you can go...

    auto scalping

.. KDB+ from www.kxsystems.com . Used by many pro arbitragers. Warning: can cause serious headaches to try and understand sourcecode. Experience from functional programming languages a big plus ... An alternative is J from www.jsoftware.com . These languages both stem from the APL family.

Is IB making our orders & quotes compete with back-fill/charting bandwidth?

Another old trick is typing a wrong password, and then the right one. Haven't had any problems like that lately, so I don't know if it still applies - but it used to set some problems of freezing login straight for me.

EUR/USD to 1.1950 by this Friday

Granted - the € rose quickly during the last months of 2004, and US$ quickly got regained some of it's losses early this year ... But given those sharp movements, one should not start seeing the doomsday for the €, just because it isn't 1.50 against the US$ yet. :D

    Chinook's EUR/USD (E/$)Mumblings

Hehe, Italian politics have always been known for being very "mixed bag" with the well of political parties and currents. My view is still that the lower half 1.22 is a good area for the next weeks. When scalping, I think that going for 60x 100pip profits is a bit crazy ... However...

    Chinook's EUR/USD (E/$)Mumblings

Another 100+ up - above 1.24, and things would start to look normal again. Besides, those who got in on around 1.22 lows or even the short dip below "got lucky"; but making money is what it's all about. Caffeine or other drugs aside, the market perception is obviously that levels are quite...

    EU constitution vote

As for Portugal, a lot of EU businesses shifted into the country as wages were low as well as tax burdens. Now Poland is the new hotspot, but the former eastern bloc addition is a nice welcome, because they have in many cases double digit growth - or at least a several times the GDP growth of...

    Chinook's EUR/USD (E/$)Mumblings

Sure, been a while since I posted regularly here; but I like to think that my trading was more about scalping for 3s - 10 mins. When it comes to my bias it is based on seasonal, or shorter timeframes. When trading actively I have more of a weekly and daily bias. For the next squeeze on the...

    Chinook's EUR/USD (E/$)Mumblings

Yes, but markets like to exaggerate into where hurt turns into desperation - to paraphrase things. Like mtzianos said, there are good things about european economy when compared to US economy - for the long run. Like has been pointed out before - the EU is in it's bottom phase - with slow...
