LOL, priceless! Is there something like the "Scientology political party convention" in the US?

Answer to economic problems = Slavery/indentured servitude?

I agree that the current crisis is due to a systemic failure caused by intervention. If you intervene on markets, you create an everlasting chain of imbalances which you will always need to react to.

    Is John McCain a hero?

Would everyone agree that e.g running into the combat field unarmed to save a fellow wounded soldier is heroic? Equally, would everyone agree that not giving up your comrades' positions under threat or actual torture is a heroic act? How do you see an unarmed Taliban soldier running to...

    trading like joe lieberman

Joe Lieberman's essence: don't mind the issues, political direction or my actions voting 90% differently than John McCain... trust my word - vote John McCain, he will end corruption, deceit and corporate influence... What a total moron. :p

Answer to economic problems = Slavery/indentured servitude?

If such a system was preferred, then the family - at least the children should be included. How can you remove the breadwinner from the household and leave the rest of the family to rot in the wind? Take the whole family! Actually, in Brazil there are roughly 500 000 slaves. They are lured...

    Is John McCain a hero?

So, if someone choose not to betray their country or fellow soldiers when facing torture - that is an heroic act? You seriously think he stayed there to inspire his fellow prisoners?!! Like he himself said - he was worried about his honour, and found the doubts after his release the worst...

    Is John McCain a hero?

lilduckling, that would be a forced act, and if voluntarily - idiotic act. Certainly nothing heroic in there. Cool film and how Christopher Walken ends up in it. I wonder how you guys see defiant attitudes by prisoners in Abu Ghraib, Fulton or elsewhere? Is it sufficient for someone...

London, UK is not cool anymore - I'm leaving

I think the UK is in some sorts of slump where they are redefining themselves - or at least need to. A bit directionless. Dubai certainly has a lot more going on, and a clear direction. That entails a lot more opportunity for the entrepreneurially spirited. So, if people are looking for...

When was the last time the US had a good President?

W4rl0ck, Clinton didn't do his own sucking... He was pretty cool. Reagan was somewhat up in the clouds, but the times called for the kind of leadership style he had too, I think. It was a defining time in history.

Laura Bush said George has kept us safe.

kut2k2, dead people have no opinions. You guys are all still safe and sound - relatively... Pabst, Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld defined "the axis of evil". Did anyone else see it as an axis of evil before they started touting it as such?

    Is John McCain a hero?

So, someone who shows courage and e.g are being tortured as a prisoner in a military camp could potentially be thought of as a hero - according to all your views/definitions. I find it interesting how you all see heroism as something ideological. I define heroism as an act, not an attitude.

    trading like joe lieberman

I consider myself a pretty good judge of character - and Joe Lieberman came across a total weasel, a lousy speaker with no content and very confusing. The first part of his speech was basically a chant of "USA, USA, USA". Then he progressed into accusing republicans of being corrupt and...

London, UK is not cool anymore - I'm leaving

British humor! It's the best in my opinion... but I'm used to it and like it a bit more complex, subtle. The UK also has a lot of great research, history, culture, banking, literature, finance, music, insurance, traditions and nature. They progressed the parliamentary system... Chicken Tikka...

Is McCain really a hero? If so - why?

London, UK is not cool anymore - I'm leaving

The over-valuation of the western housing markets and the subsequent credit-crisis is truly an aberration. I think it was a grave oversight on the part of western banking and financial institutions, which is now biting back with the emerging markets exploiting the weaknesses. But in the end -...

Cheap Products vs. High Wages... Americans Want BOTH!

Renegen, Nigeria has natural resources, and could be a successful nation with a booming economy. Unfortunately, they have corruption and not an open democracy - they lack education, health services and infrastructure. I think of social capital as the value of social structures. I mention...

Cheap Products vs. High Wages... Americans Want BOTH!

Renegen, I did not say it was a flaw to fix a unfair system - but I'm trying to explain that it is fundamentally flawed to think that you fix all problems by intervening. Ultimately it leads to a dead end. I also think that you can agree that emerging economies gaining clout and power is...
