    Interviews

I'd say that the single most important thing is to come across focused and determined. If you show up looking like you mean business, you've accomplished that. It really doesn't matter if you wear a suit or just "look nice"; just make sure it doesn't distract whoever you're meeting.

    Realtick (TAL) API's

O well then. I had hoped to avoid MS stuff if possible. But calling a dll from Java is obviously no big deal. Bummer ...

    Realtick (TAL) API's

it looks like there is a sockets interface, which should work just fine from Java. At least that's what I'm going to try first

    Best commissions Realtick platform broker?

Which really is a pitty. I would switched to a RT broker if they had per share commissions. $15 flat each way is just nuts for some trading styles.

Swing is the user interface engine. It's what TWS uses to generate the UI for TWS.

    Expo notes and news...

Great meeting everyone! (Baron, Cash, Don, rtharp, mr oz, and lots of others ) I could not believe how busy the "buy when green, sell when red" booth was. I saw several sign up for the $3000 software ... unbelievable (and sad). I guess I now have a new appreciation for Dons snakeoil pitch...

    IB JAVA platform

I had to go back to 1.3.1 I use other Java software and the new 1.4 VM got really slow after about 10 minutes. Swing is much faster in 1.4, so I'll try again when 1.4 gets released

VisualTrader - Does Anyone Have Any Information About It?

I spend about 30 minutes at the Nirvana booth trying to figure out what Visual Trader really was about. See http://www.visualtrader.com/ for a few screenshots and animations. All in all I was terribly disappointed. I did not see anything new or interesting. Maybe the guy demonstrating...

Maybe something was lost in the translation

To offend/irritate him. Bush-sr did it extensively during the golf war. It's a sign of no respect, I guess

    Exposing one Donald Bright

My favorite moment at the show was at one of Don's presentations at their booth. He is speaking though his 150W speaker systems and basically telling everyone near and far that virtually all the vendors are selling cr** and generally don' t know anything about trading. (I agree with him on that...

    Exposing one Donald Bright

The firm was founded by Bob Bright and Edward Franco. Don joined a few years later. He's director of education, so I'm sure he's focused on getting people to his classes in Las Vegas and his "snake oil" tour. http://www.stocktrading.com/html/about_us.HTM

VisualTrader - Does Anyone Have Any Information About It?

yes, Nirvana is the creator of OmniTrader. It sort of looks like a sector version of the best of OT. [I'm an old OT user, btw] I've had several requests via PM, so I'll look them up i Anaheim and write a little review when I get back.

    1% profit per day

I'm nowhere close to 1% per day consistiently. Do we really have anyone here who've averaged 1% per day for say the last 5 years? If so, I'm impressed !

    trading and working night jobs

don't know if this applies to you, but I often take on smaller consulting jobs (I have an engineering background). I'm in CA and can often program a bit during the slow time from 9 to 11 am and in the afternoon. It's all a matter of how much you make at the end of the day. I don't mind that...

    IB accounting rocks!

For 2001 that was definitely a problem. But since the 1099 really isn't useful for detailed tax reporting anyway, I just submitted the actual trades with gains/losses calculated correctly.
