    Quicken matching "lots" incorrectly

i used to have that problem. I was related to the fact the Q2002 treats short and long sales as different. So you have to sell to close a long. You have "cover short" to cover a short. I had cases where Quicken were both long and short a stock at the same time with zero shares. Confused the...

    Tony Oz

I saw a couple of snippets from the CD at the Anaheim show. Looked really good. Here's a bit from a PM I sent to a friend: -- Really interesting, however, was a walkthrough quite a number of trades, what he thought and how he adjusted position, stops etc. He had somehow recorded his...

    my greatest mistake

Well, maybe it's not a "great" mistake, but I certainly felt stupid. I had just re-arranged my charts the night before. If I recall correctly, I ended up trading MWD based on the chart of C. Didn't go well

    Programming the IB API

TGregg and steve, For the QQQ, personally I always just do ISLD. A good example of why I like smart is from yesterday where I shorted AMGN shortly after the open. Got 75 shares ISLD, 25 on ARCA and 400 somewhere else. If I had done it manually, I would have gotten 75 on ISLD and likely...

    Programming the IB API

Only reasons i can think of are: 1. if you trade a few nasdaq stocks i'm sure you can do better by manually routing to the various ECNs. Or least that was the case until supersoes came online 2. sometimes people forget how difficult it can be to get good fills on nasdaq. 3. Maybe some...

How many e-mini contracts do you trade?

I realize my approach is "boring", but I trade/value ES and NQ as if they were stocks. I look at the contract value and volatility and trade if it fits within my risk parameters. I never use the margin value for anything.

    Programming the IB API

Tough to tell. For my automated systematic trading I used limits typically 5 cents above/below market to increase likelyhood of fill. Market orders also generally fill within 5 cents of current market, which I consider normal. For QQQ and the few NASDAQ stocks I sometimes trade I also have...

Should I buy a trading system?

I haven't bought any systems, but e.g. RBreaker has been rated highly for S&P for at least 5 years. systems like aberation, are not worth it if you take rollover into account

    Programming the IB API

My experience with the API is good. Works as well as entering manually. SMART routing has not caused my any problems lately. I now never route myself anymore. I get virtually all of my fills on the ECNs for nasdaq and NYSE/TMBR on NYSE. Haven't had a terrible fill in about 2 months.

    Don's openings Part 4

daniel, Seems like you should be right  For some reason I seem to recall that it's the closing tick that matters, even though your view makes more sense.

    Don's openings Part 4

cas, I did it the same way. Sent as SMART and they get routed to NYSE upon transmit. Re the shorts: I've always thought than when I didn't get a short fill it was because the stock didn't close on an up-tick. So I've never paid much attention to not getting short fills.

    Don's openings Part 4

They cancelled immediately after the open (both the buy and sell).

    Don's openings Part 4

I know, there is nothing like dumb luck :) But anyway ... i just thought I should have been filled.

    Don's openings Part 4

For C I had a buy limit at 35.39 C opened at 34.35 but I did not get a fill. I used OpenOnly orders though IB. I thought they had to fill me since my order was marketable on the open. Confused

Will Amex trading OTC be good?

Isn't that the truth. I avoid the Amex whenever I can. I just don't see how they can add any value against ISLD and the other liquid players

    IB

Not here. I'm not getting any fills. Strange; i had begun to suspect that my quote feed was slow or something.

My Trading PC Specifications - Comments Requested

No. And with IDE/ATA being very dominant, many SCSI drives are really IDE drives wtih SCSI firmware sitting over the native IDE interface. So the benefits that were obvious say 10 years ago are practially gone (for consumer class products)

    Keeping it Simple

I enjoyed the Predictors (the book about the company). What many people fail to understand (and this is that the prediction company exploited) is that chaos and predictability are related in non-obvious ways. It's for instance possible to have a deterministic system with chaotic behavior. So...

    best excel feed?

eSignal works well. I use it. Look for DDE connectivity. Virtually all the quotefeeds offer it.

    Exposing one Donald Bright

In trading you have to learn to love your losers. Think about that way: Attending a Bright seminar is a mistake you won't make again :)
