    Don's Openings, Part 6 2003

Just curious: how long to you keep your orders live if the specialist haven't filled them ? I tend to cancel about 2 mins after the open, but was curious for other feedback.

    P&L on new TWS

Fascinating: futures continues to work for me, stocks do not

    P&L on new TWS

The only workaround I've found is to open the account Window and try to keep track of what positions TWS considers open. Fortunately the futures seems to work correctly, or at least did for me on friday.

If you could get ONE certification/degree.....

I suggest getting a degree in engineering, mathematics or statistics. In the end, trading is a game of probability. It's all a matter of finding a trading approach that has positive expectancy. No amount of personal discipline will help you if you do not have positive expectancy. I have found...

Level 2 Tricks vs. True Intention

I just got fooled all the time when I saw big limit orders at either the bid or ask. Tough for me to determine if it's real buying/selling or simply a trick to make me think that there is real buying/selling. Using time and sales simply lets me focus on the actual trades taking place, not...

Level 2 Tricks vs. True Intention

I found that not looking at L2 simply worked better for me. L2 is one big poker game, so unless you view it that way, you'll be fooled. I've found the same to be true for the Globex limit book, btw.

    LOO and IB

All mine have cancelled as expected. I did not get to trade thursday and friday, so if it's those days I don't have any data.

Price series analysis in pre development

Lots of good advice from nitro and others. I only have a few more things to add: You can do quite of bit of analysis in Excel. After going down the path of genetic algorithms, chaos theory etc., I've eventually come back to "simple is good". I was never really able to find much truly profound...

    General Question(s) about strategy development....

If you can be consistently profitable in 15 stocks with a large number of trades, I would say that it's good enough. There is no need to worry that SPY doesn't test profitable. SPY and ES are hard to trade with the same systems that works well on individual stocks. That's my experience...

    E-signal

the good news is that as long as you just want the real-time quotes, it's fairly straightforward to get them through the DDE server. I've compared DDE T&S events what MetaStocks receives, and DDE seems to deliver all quotes. If you want your own SM, L2, or historical quotes, obviously DDE...

Say No To Thin E-mini Spread

I'd prefer if the tick size was identical to the pit. That could ultimatley help keeping ES and SP slightly more in line, which would be good. With all the ES liquidity at all levels, I doubt that a reduction in tick size would mean anything other than better fills for most of us. The arb guys...

    anatomy of a backtest report

I realize that some of this has already be mentioned, but here is what I look for before trading a system 1. num trades > 50 2. smooth equity curve. Run regression test of equity curve and look at noise levels 3. average trade > 5 * (commission + slip) 4. average trade > 2 * risk (as...

Is it my computer or this site ?

Babak, I've given up figuring out what the problem is. I'm on Win2000 with all the service patches, ditto for IE 5.xx. sounds like I can't blame it on matrox :)

Is it my computer or this site ?

One of my computers have a matrox card (dual head). Elite never displays correctly. Duplicate messages etc. Every other site is fine on that computer, and elite is fine on my other computers.

    Pairs Trading Strategy Model

Exactly my findings, too. There is very little left to trade on that I've been able to identify.

    Robert Rotella book

One of the first books I read. Lots of good detail for the beginner. Focused mostly on the futures markets and no info on order routing for stocks e.g. Recommended

    David Floyd's "KTN" numbers?

Try to plot his TKN numbers on a handful of the stocks him mentions. The ones that seem to hit some S/R level are guaranteed to featured in his next column. Go figure :)

    Larry Williams trading style

LW, like so many others, have contributed a handful of really useful ideas. Despite all the MoneyTree, seminars etc. that continues to arrive in my mailbox I still feel that LW has given me more than enough to think about to be taken seriously whenever he speaks. The one time where I had the...
