    Highest level of education?

Depending on trading style there is a lot of value in a solid background in statistics. I trade mainly mechanical systems, and it's very easy to get fooled by the apparent good performance of a "promising" system. I feel that my academic background has helped me weed out those mistakes...

Why do quants need to know programming?

My two cents: Programming is easy. A typical programming language has about 50 valid constructs (sentenses if you will). Most 2 year olds know more sentences than that. So the issue is not the programming; it's what to "say", ie the algorithms, models, trading logic. Here a strong academic...

Comments on eSignal 7.x and above

I did a little test about a year ago. At that time 50 symbols took about 3.8kbytes/sec. This was high volume NYSE/NASDAQ stocks plus a few indices.

    ES benchmarks

the trader (SLM) in SFO magazine said a few months ago that he though you should be able to make $300 per ES per day. That's 6 points.

"prnt scrn" works great too. Just paste into any of the image/painting programs that come with windows.

    Tradestation or IB

I use esignal combined with IB. I like the fact that I have a secondary quote stream with IB should eSignal ever go down. Works very well.

    Science, Meta-physics and Trading

Actually, I have a PhD in mathematics. Not sure what that has to do with trading, though :)

    Science, Meta-physics and Trading

at some philosophical level trading is much like quantum mechanics: you can't make accurate predictions, only statements of probability.

    Fixed Profit-Targets (Revisited)

For me, at least, the key point is that there is no one-target-fits-all. It all depends on what the price action looks like. I'll be more aggressive with PT if I'm trying for a reversal, than if I'm trying for a trend continuation, for instance. Interestingly, my swing systems all do...

Turn the NYSE into an ECN

I've never really seen much value in the "price improvement" at the NYSE. If the market is moving in my favor I get a slightly better price; this is not much different than entering an order slightly further away from the bid/ask. With just a little bit of tape skill, you can achieve the same...

I've inlcude a summary line for each trading account on Schedule D and used the dates for the first trade. I've then attached a summary of all trades right after Sch D.

    IB OPG order problem

cas, thank you very much. I use SMART, too, even though I did try NYSE on friday, just in case. I guess I'll reinstall TWS and the API and see if that helps. If I figure out what caused it, I'll post here

    IB OPG order problem

All my OPG orders have been rejected the last three days. Actually, when hitting "transmit" nothing happens. No error messages, etc. I use the API to generate the orders, but submit manually from TWS Anyone else seen this problem ? I'm using 788.5

The power of mind: trading by remote-viewing :D

I believe it was Joe McMoneagle who did a live RV session on ABC sometime in the late 90s. He seems to perform much better than random chance as far as I can tell.

The power of mind: trading by remote-viewing :D

Just give it a try. It's difficult to determine where intuition ends and delusion begins

    Throwing in the towel

Who said anything about coding :) I actually tend to code more when I trade than when I do other tings. You often have to interact with customers, your staff and run the biz. Anyway; I like the diversion once in a while. Also, having guaranteed good income for while is like being on vacation...

    Throwing in the towel

The only resource that cannot be replaced is your time. If you can make good money trading, then that's what you should do. If you can make much better money doing something else, then that's what you should do. I have switched to/from trading several times over the last 10 years. When a...

    What is multi-threading?

Multi-threading is way for the operating system to do multiple things at the same time efficiently. Multi-threading is often more efficient than running e.g. multiple programs at the same time (assuming that the same "end result" was produced) New P4s has special hardware to make...
