    Keeping trading systems secret

don't get too excited. He doesn't include roll-over in his performance data, which pretty much ruins it for many of the commodities.

"Have you made or lost money since you started trading?"

Let's keep it clean. I've deleted a few of the most immature postings. If it continues I'll have to remove all posts of the offending members.

    Vegas Trade Show Report

Trader5287 Thank you for a good report. Next time I have the opportunity to attend I am planning to sit in on LBR's session.

    JoeKrut Trading System

I have both of Joe's Krutsingers books. Definitely worth the money. He has lots of interesting ideas that I haven't seen anywhere else. He also understands and explains well which part of a system's statistics you have to look at. I spoke to him a few years ago, and was impressed with his...

How much should a "good" trader earn?

It's easy to focus on "how much" one should be making. In reality that's a waste of time and you'll end up comparing yourself to others in stead of improving yourself. For the handful of good prop traders I know, the consensus seems to be that 250k on a 100k (prop) account is considered...

    Monte Carlo simulation

For what it's worth, I've done simple MC simulations in excel without programming at all. Just import all the trades in one column. Copy to column 2 and randomize the entries, ditto for column 3. Simply draw the equity curves for the summed columns. Gives a pretty good idea of how things...

Reformating your hard disk many times, harm your system?

You can reformat and re-install as much as you link. No harm done to anything in your system (HD, processor or memory) On a practical note. Consider using ghost or some other disk imaging software. Install a clean OS once and make the ghost. Then any re-installs will be done in minutes from...

Do NYSE Traders use IB's Smart Order Routing Very Often?

Always use SMART. Both intra day and GTC Limits. Works a like a charm. Have not had a single incident of "strange" fills.

which famous trading systems are good?

The predictors sold the company to UBS for ~ $300 M. Pretty good for a few years worth of work :)

    validating a trade strategy

My point was that margin is not a useful measurement of risk. Only the volatility of the actual postion is. Maint margin is the risk the brokerage house is willing to take with the assumption that they most likely can liquidate your position without risking their capital.

    validating a trade strategy

I have always found it useful to look at the size of the contract you trade. Not matter what how you put it, that's the capital/risk you've comitted. Maint margin is something the brokerage houses likes to keep low to entice you to trade more. So put one ES at 50k. That's what you'd do if...

    Market timing is unnecessary

... No advertising on Baron's board. I've had several complaints about Mrmarkets self promotion. This time it seems pretty clean, but let's stay focused on strategies.

    What is NLP?

Another little gem of a book (recommended by someone here on Elite a few years ago): "What to say when you talk to yourself". by Shad Helmstetter

    What is NLP?

I highly recommend Anthony Robbins. In particular the CD versions of Personal Power and Awaken the Giant within. They helped me understand limitations in how I approached problems and have helped me immensely. I once read the Giant book, but found it much too detailed with lots of "irrelevant"...

Does a Wash Sale Only Matter for EOY Positions?

Dave Fleck, Thank you for a great detailed reply. I avoid the issue, I hope :) , by not trading stocks in December. I only trade futures, which do not have this particular tax problem.

    Calling TWS ActiveX from C#

I ended up using sockets, and not pipes. I have both Java and C++ programs and using sockets allows me to run the applications on different systems (or the same with no changes in code). Pipes are local IPC only. Just a thought ...

When to call it quits as a trader

I agree, this is the only sensible thing to do: Go where the money is. 70s and early 80s it was commodities, mid 80s to 90s stocks and real-estate. The only asset you have that you never can get back is your time, so you should only do things that are worthwhile. Trading, fortunately, can...

IB needs a daytime ONLY order for equities

Def, thanks, good point. But the text in the configuration for Stop orders indicate that the "allow trigger outside regular trading hours" only apply to simulated stop-limits, not plain stops. Is that not the case?
