Is IB playing fair with their customers (new CME Cancellation Fees)?

My hope is that this will reduce the noise levels a bit. All the tricks posting large bids and offers and pulling them all the time, simply clogs up the network and negatively affects most of us. BTW, if you think two months is a lot of time invested, you're in for a surprise :)

What is a good ratio between your trading income and commision?

If you can do that ... that's impressive. It just seems to me that your edge vs cost is so thin that even the smallest of mistakes or change in market will put you in the red. I would not trade a strategy with such a thin edge, but if you can ... best of luck.

What is a good ratio between your trading income and commision?

I'd like to see 10:1 on average. For instance, average gain of 10cents per share with 1 cent/share commission. Having 10% fixed overhead is reasonable., imo. I would worry if my edge fell below 5:1

Trading real contracts based on Continuous Contract data

I do the following (sorry if it doesn't exactly answer your question): 1. always trade the front month and roll over to new contract whenever it becomes the active one. I've always found the spread on the front contract tighter anyway 2. you have to simulate how you'll trade, so if you don't...

IB Listed Trading - a word of warning

This is hysterical! In stead of harassing Turok, I'd listen to him. He knows what he's talking about.

IB Listed Trading - a word of warning

I've been "bitten" by this more than once. For listed I route to NYSE only. No "SMART". The problem with smart and stops is that some random ECN can trigger the stop and you'll then get a fill you didn't intend. I have not seen the NYSE put out wrong quotes (yet).

IB Charting --- Problem in GMT+10

This is actually a general problem. I found it a few days ago placing Good After Time orders through the API. IB is looking at it.

    Optionetics: Good or Bad ?

The CBOE puts on training classes throughout the US. I attended one about 5 years ago and found it very good. It was free when I attended and they even gave out a book or two. Much of the material is on their web site now. Here's one good link...

    Does Volume precede price?

Most of the volume in the index futures is related to arb or program trading, so I doubt volume is meaningful here. For stocks I've found some validity, but never anything I could systematically exploit.

    Stumped by sticky adware

the most recent issue of Dr. Dobbs has a great little story by Jerry Purnel and how he rid himself of a similar addware infection. I don't have the magazine anymore, but it listed a good website with free tools. Maybe someone here has the magazine and can post a link.

    Question about Bright?

FWIW: I have friend who trades through Bright, and he has told me he's being treated well. I considered Bright three years ago, but ended up taking a different route. I found Don helpful and honest, but also a bit of a "sales man". He has a product to sell, which we all know, so I can only...

    Always winning

Burtakus, I believe the only way to overcome this "limitation" is through repetition. I used to feel much the same way, but after a few thousand trades, I really don't care about the individual trades anymore. It may be worthwhile listening to Anthony Robbins and some of his techniques for...

eCBOT (YM) stops, who can view them?

I've bought the high tick and sold the low more times than the opposite. Somehow the market tends to shake out stops. Over time, it really doesn't matter.

    IB Sticky Market Orders

Cluseau: this is getting pretty sad. I've known def (his real name also) since 2001 and always found him (and IB) honest, responsive, and interested in resolving any issue I've had (or thought I've had). Why don't you simply document what you see and ask them to take a look at it. I'd be...

    Why so hard on indicators?

I'm not sure I understand the premise of this debate in the first place. An indicator is some sort of calculation on the price series, and maybe related price series. The "indicator" is simply used as a placeholder for the calculation. If the calculation is valuable the indicator is valuable and...

    Are all trading courses scams?

Think about it this way: Do you truly think you can learn to play the Piano by taking a course of the web? How much time do you think it would take before you could play duet with the best in the world. That's pretty much what you're signing up to do with trading.

Is data mining for trading patterns impossible?

Good for you! That's what I thought would be the case at the time, but I just never got there. It's a never-ending evolving battle :)

Is data mining for trading patterns impossible?

When I worked on this extensively (~year 2000) i never managed to find anything with a significant statistical edge. I did find a few strategies that were net positive (after commissions etc), but not nearly as good as what I could design myself. In the end I "retired" the approach.
