Your platform should publish such stats. If by momentum you mean TICK, TRIN, Advance/Decline, etc. But I haven’t seen them broken down by index, only by exchange. TOS has them.
Agree. However, when TOS is not having issues on their side, I don’t see any noticeable difference between them and IB. I don’t pay anything for TOS data or platform, while I pay for IB data. I can’t really find a good alternative to TOS yet.
Great answer, Val! This idea of AL and scalability also was mentioned in one of Taleb books. He gives example of writing the book which takes some finite effort but the payout is virtually unlimited and requires no further effort. He suggested to only engage yourself in this kind of endeavors...
This article is written by IEX. So they want to be able to show a protected (lit) quote that they can pull based on their algorithm.
Imagine that I send a marketable buy order to my broker. The broker’s router must send the order to the exchange displaying best offer - the quote which is...
So I always try separating the message from the messenger. I don’t know if I am right of course, but it’s much easier to understand and teach/preach than to actually do it. Same with trading. I like Elkhart Tolle books. Trying to make my teenager read it, but it’s not currently on ticktock.
That’s exactly my point - brokers don’t want to be in the business of delivering market data. It’s too much of a hassle with not enough reward.
I don’t know what that means. IB data is pulsed and they limit number of subscriptions. Quality of their data is also suspect, but I didn’t look very...
Val, may I ask you, what is the purpose of your trading? In other words, part-time income, full-time income, long-term wealth building, hobby, advisor/cunsulting, all of the above?
So how do you think they are able to pick you off if you run at same speed? Do you think they use same network, routing equipment, gateways, etc? Do you remember one ET contributor mentioned that tech team from NASDAQ came to their shop doing presentation and Q&A on how their matching engine...
There’s lots of regulations around providing market data via api (look up non-display fees). Brokers don’t want deal with that. Also too bandwidth intensive to be practical over internet.
IB is the only broker I am aware of that allows it over api for reasonable price.
Use mental stop on initial entry, trailing once break even. Must position size to be able to survive a flush against you. Using stops on low floats is like asking to be stopped out, imho (I don’t trade them)
When it’s going to be useless for retail traders. They are just trying to bring costs down for sale-side firms. You and I will never have access to good real time data (SIP or proprietary), especially now that PFOF is accepted. US Equity markets are becoming CFDs run by HFTs. That was the idea...
Same as business, how quickly can it pay for itself? Buying implies paying in full upfront , but I would prefer leasing. I am leasing one right now and it paid for itself (cost of subscription + potential losses for the year) in first couple of months. I don’t trust backtests (at least done by...
This error most likely means that the system categorized your order as selling short, rather than closing position. In other words, the sum of outstanding sell shares exceeded your current long position. Was your stop loss order for full position?
