Not sure if you can compare it like that, but you bring up a good point ... if you are going to hit the data vendor for 8k symbols every minute, I assume they will either tell you to f#%! off or you will have so many failed requests it will become unusable. I don't think you have any options...

It's still direct access (DMA) if you can specify the desired destination. If you are trading over internet, brokers' compliance checks is the least of your problems.

Why do you care about the data vendor's capacity?

Are you calculating this because you will be running off the cloud?

Manually, I "scalp" mostly tech stocks around the open and sometimes around the close. I avoid stocks I'm not familiar with and stocks with large spreads as I mostly take liquidity.

I don't think of it as manipulation but rather there is lots of things happening at the same time ... large volumes/orders being transacted, talking heads/analysts making comments, MMs widening spreads, HFTs join the party. I'm not saying you cannot trade it, but I don't think you can expect...

FWIW, I think gaps are chaotic and hard to trade. But TradeNet guys seems to be doing ok with it.

No such thing ... If its not delayed(15mins?), it's real time and you will have to pay to distributor or directly to exchange. I think IEX data is still free, but most likely useless.

That is no longer true, if ever was. Globalization, fairly or unfairly, is leveling out wages. As one gets older, it's more difficult to complete for wages. At least in my industry.

What I meant by that is that many people start trading as a hobby. They take some play money they are not afraid to loose. Often this results in big wins because they don't care about draw downs and/or money management. I think that is also the reason many consider paper trading useless. But...
