TradeWrecker, thanks for starting this thread. Interesting questions you raise. It's the same reason football coaches are all former football players and public speaking trainers come from acting and not research labs. Like public speaking or football, controlling emotions is a skill, it's...

Don't see how you become rational hoarding gold. Even if it works, you're a jerk.

Gordon Brown should have been on the list for sure, just after cartoon character Charlie Brown. During his time as Chancellor of the Exchequer he sold most of the Bank of England's gold at record low prices. Even though he isn't the author of the quote in question, he has certainly followed the...

    1 point slippage on ES!!

Look at the trade data. It looks like at the open there was a gap down. If others had stops placed just above yours, these would have wiped out any remaining liquidity at favorable levels. It doesn't hurt enquiring with IB anyway.

Do you consider money management an edge?

Hi NoDoji, thanks for the swift reply at the start of the thread. I think there is no argument that being able to set a target twice the size of the stop-loss and still have 50% win rate is an edge. The argument is whether this is money management as opposed to setup (I trade only when I can set...

    why looking for dividends ?

Dividend-paying stocks is not everyone's cup of tea. So, maybe they are not the best for your circumstances. If every investor wanted dividend-paying stocks, nearly every stock would pay dividends. If you dig in depth, you will notice that stocks that pay high didvidends are usually those of...

JPMorgan Based Foreclosures on Faulty Documents, Lawyers Claim

Most divisions of Lehman were quickly bought up by other banks - together with offices, staff and client lists. Shareholders (including Lehman employees with bonuses locked up in Lehman shares) got wiped out. So, did clients who were unlucky to hold money with Lehman, such as money market funds...

Agree.... though I think the poll was meant as a joke. At least, I laughed.

No spread, no commission, how would you trade?

To me this sounds more like a particularly crooked forex broker. They show only one quote, claim no spread, no commission... but whenever a client requests a trade they'll move the quote just against the client or will just openly give a worse rate than what's shown on the screen when the trade...

The same bloke said: "I think my taxes are a little too low. And I don't think we needed the last round of tax cuts, nor do I think that hedge fund operators deserve to pay lower taxes than taxi drivers as a percentage of income. I think when you're that crazy, it's serious."

    5,000,000,000 Wireless Subscriptions Worldwide

Agree with risktaker. Even if the figues add apples with apples (and not oranges) and avoid double-counting, you still have to look into what "subscription" means. For example, if "pay as you go" sim card is counted as a "subscriptions", there is no relation between these and the number of...

How much risk capital should one use in a single trade?

This highlights the difference between investing and trading. An investor basically relies on the ability to identify long-term trends. It is assumed that there are always identifiable trends in mutiple intruments. So, the question is reduced to how to allocate capital between these...

    Direct access to IB Servers

The cost of it is clearly specified on the IB Web-site.. and it is in the low thousands of US dollars per month (on top of commissions and other fees). People who use this service probably do so on behalf of the company they work with and are bound by confidentiality agreement.

Non RT platform for backtesting of EOD tick data

Lots of comments in this revewe are fair. In particular, Neoticker appeals to serious users and has steep learning curve. It has very powerful charting but is less suitable for people who are not prepared to dedicate a little time to learning the platform. Most of the things one might want to do...

Non RT platform for backtesting of EOD tick data

Neoticker supports a number of data vendors that provide price history in addition to real-time data. If that's not enough you can import historical data as text files. The thing that contributed to my choice of Neoticker is the existence of API (which is well-documented and is made availabel...

Non RT platform for backtesting of EOD tick data

NeoTicker has "portfolio" trading sustems which means you cna build a system that runs on dozens or even hundreds of instrumenst... and run it in real-time and backtest... basically do anything you can do with a system on one instrument. As far as I'm aware (it's best to ask on Neoticker...
