Why is low housing prices a problem?

Royal Bank of Scotland (one of the largest mortgage lenders and banks in the UK) hanged on to the loans. However, in order to keep lending the bank financed its mortgage book with short term loans in the money market. When the crisis hit and investors figured out the bank's books might not be as...

    Ban on incandescent light bulbs

In Europe you can also buy incandescent laps in a hardware store. Apparently, for certain industrial applications fluorescent bulbs are not bright enough. Also from http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/8367933.stm

I think you are looking at http://www.cmegroup.com/company/membership/types-of-membership.html. Click on the drop-down box that says "Individual". You can select 3 other options. "Clearing" membership even offers discounted exchange fees for affiliated hedge funds. P.S. If your Web-browser...

    Switzerland. Is this true?

Switzerland is not the only country where non residents don't pay tax on capital gains or bank interest. The depositholders and investors pay tax in their own country. The reason Switzerland is a popular place of residence for wealthy people is because immigrants can choose to pay a fixed...

How to Protect Your Income from Taxation?

Another option is to set up a company and trade in its name. Clearly, there are a number of conditions that need to be satisfied for a company to be a separate entity for tax and liability purposes. The company has to have a "business", not just be an investment vehicle unless it's registered as...

    Thinking about CME/IOM membership

It's a question for the lawyers but I doubt it will be a serious issue... as long as Heech keeps proper records and doesn't trade for himself at the same time as the fund. However, that will be considered cheating on the exchange fees. Think about brokers. Many of them are exchange mebers and...

Policy makers trying to come up with a way for states to declare BANKRUPTCY!

What I am missing is why there is a need for a special law. There is a history of states going bankrupt. It is quite common for financially sound companies to go into "restructuring" in order to unwind long-term contracts. Why is a new law needed so that states can do the same?

A couple of thoughts regarding Interactive Brokers

IB is difficult to beat in terms of coverage of international markets and commissisons are pretty competitive. However, in terms of support for fully automated traders there are a few brokers that do much better. By "native" you mean pure .NET, right? Because IB has provided C++ API that...

    Tons of trading signals!

Try finding a way to quantify which trades are the best. For example, you might think the best trades have largest target compared to stop or target compared to bid/offer+commission or the best trades are in the most volatile markets (as these may come into profit faster realeasing risk for...

Looking for a connection monitor that tells you if your internet died

Except I understand it tracks LAN (or USB modem) connection. If you have a modem-router, there is no way the PC will know the cable from the modem-router to the the telephone exchange got cut... unless the PC constantly sends some requests that require such a connection.

what is the best language that suits massive calculation on every tick?

Regarding platform, I'm sure lots of people would recommend their favourite platform (or the one they are developing/sellling) but hear you need to do your own legwork. Make a shortlist of platforms (remember, platforms that are most popular are those that come free in some form, like...

QuoteTracker To Be Finished End of 2011

Sold, otherise the role of ATD would be irrelevant. Just to summarise what has been said in this thread... After ATD acquired TOS (which is in a sense more powerful a platform), the management gave in to TOS developers, who wanted their platfrom to be the only platform, and decided to part...

My experiences as a Hedge Fund Startup

Because geetting the first investor is such a big deal, the first investor often gets all kinds of priviledges: from lower fees to partnership in the fund management firm and corresponding share of profits. Agree. Just a small minority of recent posts seemed to me like an attack on the OP. Good...
