Windshield Death Sentence -- Is 50 Years Appropriate Punishment?

I just don't know all the facts. If he was screaming and moaning while gargling in his own blood while in the garage, that is very heartless. However the defense medical examiner said the guy most like received a huge concussion and was out the entire time until death. Honestly, it really...

Windshield Death Sentence -- Is 50 Years Appropriate Punishment?

Shouldn't there be a remarkable difference between a woman who is high and accidently hits a person with her car, freaks out and leaves him to die vs. a guy who runs into a bank, shoots the teller and makes off with the money? The major component lacking in this murder is the "intentional"...

Windshield Death Sentence -- Is 50 Years Appropriate Punishment?

Saudia Arabia doesn't feed inmates. The inmates rely on offerings from people who visit them. That could be a start. I don't want to sound cruel, but I just don't like the fact that other people are paying for her mistakes. She makes a mistake and now the state of Texas is paying for it...

Windshield Death Sentence -- Is 50 Years Appropriate Punishment?

The whole judicial system needs revision. Why should the taxpayers pay for her incarceration? We need a better system.

Windshield Death Sentence -- Is 50 Years Appropriate Punishment?

She freaked out. She chose to take the drugs -- however anyone who knows anything about being on a drug knows that people do not make rational decisions while on them. She is completely guilty for chosing to take the drugs, but is not completely guilty for her actions while experiencing the...

Windshield Death Sentence -- Is 50 Years Appropriate Punishment?

She made a huge mistake. Whatever she can figure out sitting in jail for 30 years, she could easily figure out in just 5 years. Do you know how much reflection is possible sitting in an 8x8 cell for 5 years? And as far as the finances, someone else is going to die because that money had...

Windshield Death Sentence -- Is 50 Years Appropriate Punishment?

I'd like to see a little more compassion expressed in this world. This endless cycle of "an eye for an eye" went out with barbarism. Treat and release her after a more moderate sentence. There is no need to keep an endless cycle in perpetual motion. She's responsible, but that doesn't...

Windshield Death Sentence -- Is 50 Years Appropriate Punishment?

The problem is that the citizen's of Texas are ultimately paying. The last I read, it costs somewhere around $37,000 a year per inmate. That means $37,000 x 30 years (if she makes probation). That is $1,110,000 dollars that taxpayers are paying while she stays in the state's prison...

Windshield Death Sentence -- Is 50 Years Appropriate Punishment?

I doubt she is a threat to society. Given proper drug counseling and a long probationary period, it makes a lot more sense to give her a smaller sentence. This stuff adds up and it causes prison overcrowding. She'll be eligible for parole in 30 years.

Windshield Death Sentence -- Is 50 Years Appropriate Punishment?

If I understand the facts, she was on two different drugs and alcohol. Although that is not an excuse, I can see how someone would panic given the proper circumstances. She didn't purposely kill him. It amounts to grossly negligent homicide. 50 years was extreme. Something on the order...

    <<New Friendship>>

Nobody deserves to die like that. That is a horrific way to torture someone. How long would it take for him to die by immersing him up to his hips in boiling water? Not quick enough. Put a gun to his head and pull the trigger if you have to kill the man, but to make another man suffer like...

RIAA is after Kazaa users big time now

That is absolutely right. One of the ways Metallica got big was by allowing the distribution of bootlegs at their smaller concerts. Word spread and they got signed and the rest is history. (Funny how they then started sueing their once loyal fans because their fans were using Napster) Ask...

RIAA is after Kazaa users big time now

Bare in mind that "theft" and "stealing" are not related to this. This is copyright infringement, which is handled by a completely different set of laws. I'm not justifying the act, but it is important that we compare apples to apples. All of the relevant copyright laws are right here...

RIAA is after Kazaa users big time now

I don't understand what the RIAA intends to do with this situation. I'm sure there are hackers out there right now coming up with new P2P systems that either use one-time encryption or some type of IP filtering system -- perhaps through an anonymous proxy that doesn't keep logs. The RIAA...

RIAA is after Kazaa users big time now

What happens if some teen is using a wireless connection that is open in his neighborhood? Will the unknowing access provider get the suit from RIAA? The RIAA has finally gone to that last ditch measure.
