    Aphie's REAL Trading Journal

I will be back soon, but I need to stay away from ET for a week or two and clear my mind of a lot of the negativity that I see going through this board. There are a lot of great people who give great support, but just as many selfish assholes who really don't care about anyone else but...

    Aphie's REAL Trading Journal

Speaking of Jasper, I was tweaking it and accidently went short on a YJ contract and by the time I realized I was in the market, I was out $50. I think I'm going to take a hiatus from this board and concentrate on my trading. I obviously can't do both at once and I'm only hurting myself by...

    Aphie's REAL Trading Journal

Sometimes it can be very boring. I don't know how other traders do it on some days, but if I ever do this full-time (all the time), then I'll probably make a trade and set my stops and go out jogging or something. Sitting in front of the monitor is something I'd like to minimize any way I can.

    limit to max spread?

Low liquidity is horrible when trading options. That's why I like to watch options on QQQ, the major Dow 30 and other major companies. Personally, if it doesn't trade more than a million shares a day, I wouldn't touch it.

    Aphie's REAL Trading Journal

Yes -- I am finding out that, in my mind, there are always two little guys on each of my shoulders. One is saying, "The trend is strong -- go with it!" and the other one, with a pitchfork, is saying, "It couldn't possibly go any higher than this! Short it now!" I must learn to listen...

    Aphie's REAL Trading Journal

Nothing to write home about. I was able to apply my system easily with a lower leveraged instrument. I took a LONG trade on YJ at 8414 and sold at 8420 for a net profit for the day of $12. Trading with these emotions is easy -- I went with the strong trend for an easy scalp. My heart...

    limit to max spread?

That is a huge spread! I don't think there is any regulation about spreads, because it is simply the difference between what the maximum price someone wants to buy it for and the minimum price someone will sell it for. You can download options software to compute the Black Scholes value of...

I tried to purchase an option through IB and I got "Order Rejected: Potential Pattern Day Trade." Nice to see options are included in this.

    Question on Debit Spread

Unfortunately, I'm realizing now that all the advice I get on here doesn't really apply to my real-world situation. For example, I purchased the $24 PUT on QQQ for a good price and then purchases the $23 PUT to offset some of that price. My real risk was my outlay of $65, not $80. The $23...

    Ballmer's Comments on MSFT

He says their jump in sales is an anomaly. I'm going to play contrarian and assume he wouldn't be saying that unless he's trying to lower expectations for the next earnings quarter. I'll watch what happens with MSFT today and decide if it is a good stock to purchase a PUT on (since I can't...

    blacklist

Give me the list -- I'll make the website. They can sue me all they want -- they won't get a damn penny out of me. They won't even get to my 5k before the market takes it.

    Sucker plays

Tomorrow I may ask my best friend to punch me in the face and give me a bloody nose. If I get punched in the face enough times, I will learn to deal with the pain and suck it up like a man. The reason the statistics are at 90% is probably because 10% have stuck around long enough to learn...

    Mistruths about Options

When I did econometric studies on Options, I did a test on the distribution of price changes in many various stocks, and the results did not approximate the Black Scholes Model exactly. In fact, the distribution of sigma changes in stock changes is not lognormal at all -- there are many high...

E-mini S&P, To Slippage or not to Slippage

I've written to eSignal about something concerning this. I want to graph only the ASK price during the course of the day with ES. That way, I won't have to worry so much about whether a certain price was bid/ask or what not. However, if you are looking at a range and the high is 899.25...

    Mistruths about Options

Other things I have learned about options that weren't obvious. a) An American Style option can be excerised at any time -- even if it is out of the money. b) Options are not always priced correctly -- so research before you buy. If the option is priced to high, sell it -- if it is...

Am I right in reading that? Is your average profit per trade less than commissions?

    Mistruths about Options

There seems to be a lot of mistruths floating around about options, in my opinion. This probably stems from sheer ignorance about how they work. EliteTrader should have FAQ, but here are some of my opinions about options. Feel free to jump in. First of all, places like Motley Fool and...
