    Discretionary vs fully Systematic

Sounds like you have rules for ignoring or changing your rules. :)

    Discretionary vs fully Systematic

Why have rules if you are not going to follow them? At what point do you break your rules?

Why would a beginner need a large account?

Back in the day. When I started the commission was 3% each way and the spreads were in quarters. Discounters eventually hit the markets and the price of trading came down. IB came to Canada with a penny per share and a minimum of a buck a trade. Today I trade commission free, way better than...

Is it possible to join a Prop Firm if I make 1% a month?

Start with friends and family. Use a pricing structure such as you guarantee them a 10% return and you get 50% of any returns exceeding that. Can't guarantee 10% then you are not ready to manage money.

Why would a beginner need a large account?

I suppose it depends more on the spread than on the broker. My experience has been that if I enter a limit order I get filled at that price whether I'm trading one share or 1000. If I put in a market order I will usually get filled at the ask although a lot of times I will get filled at a better...

    Discretionary vs fully Systematic

What is a discretionary rule based trader? Isn't it either/or? You have a set of rules that you follow with discipline except when you don't! Do you have data to back this up? I'm a rule based trader. I became one to reduce my drawdowns. One of my rules is not to have losing stocks in my...

    Scaling in to winning trades

Why deeper drawdowns? If you are managing your position properly the losses should be small. One big winner makes up for a lot of small losses. I suppose if you are only trading one instrument like ES a losing streak will cause a deep drawdown. With stocks I am diversified (Up to 10 positions)...

    Bitcoin Price Thread

Does anyone have any idea who is doing the selling? I was led to believe that all transactions were transparent with block chain. When I look at a chart of BTC I see that most of the high volume candles are red. I'm not even sure where that data comes from. Is that accumulated from all the...

    Scaling in to winning trades

The main reason is that once you take your profit on the initial trade, the trade is over. Let your winners run. Adding to a position that is moving in your direction accomplishes this. Entering a trade with a small or partial position keeps your losses small when you are wrong and you only add...

    Scaling in to winning trades

I'll scale into a trade that is moving in my direction under certain conditions. I get another set-up on a position I already have. The stop being hit on the additional trade won't cause a loss on the originial trade.

Why would a beginner need a large account?

If you have 3-4 stop losses hit in 50 trades you are going to be a very successful trader. My experience is more like 25-30.

Risk Catagories, for lack of a bette term

I don't think a percentage is the way to set a stop. A stop is that point at which you are proven wrong in your assessment of where the trade will go. FWIW: I perfer to be proven right. If not then just abandon the trade.
