    Darvas or IBD?

Here is a quick scan I ran that returned several stocks that were not on your list. My scan engine can only look back 4 years so I had to manually throw out the ones that were not making new 20 year highs. • Avg Volume is greater than 300000 • Price is greater than $20 • Max High...

    Darvas or IBD?

Those look like reasonable stocks. Why the 75% of all time high? Darvas insisted on all time highs. The list had over a dozen stocks. Do you have any other filters?

How much to risk per trade?

That’s a number that you alone will have to come up with. How much is enough? Once you determine that number, see what percent return you need per year to get there. Then ask yourself if it’s reasonable to expect that return?

    Darvas or IBD?

I think the difference is that O’Neil uses fundamentals to narrow down his universe of stocks and TA to buy them. O’Neil use CANSLIM to pick stocks. Darvas uses TA to select stocks, then fundamentals to narrow the list down and then TA to buy and sell. The Darvis system looks for stock...

What is the holding period for swing trading?

Swing trading; my definition is trading the minor swings in a major move. (Buy the dips; sell the rallies) Define your objective for trading. Are you looking for a quick move? Some traders place a time stop on their trades. If the trade hasn’t hit the target in X days they close the...

How can we improve our trading skill ?

One thing about posting live trades is that you are now accountable to everyone who reads your posts. If nothing else it makes you realize that you are the only one who can control the outcome of your trade. When you deviate from your trading plan you not only have to rationalize it to...

    10 weeks - 100 trades

I don't know a thing about option trading. What I have noticed is that for just about every week end report your biggest loss is greater than your biggest gain. Ego my question about risk control. Kudos for posting your trades in what seems to be close to real time. Most posters post after...

Quote: "Trading is a teachable science, not an innate talent."

Of course you can teach someone to trade. Just like any other skill it takes a little training and a lot of practice. Will you become a world-class trader? It’s doubtful. To do that requires an innate talent. Not unlike golf or poker. Taking a lesson won’t immediately help your game but...

Keep in mind that leverage works both ways. With 200k buying power a couple of losses wipes out your 10k.

Are you more comfortable buying or selling previous highs?

I read that you shouldn't give back any more than you absolutely had to. I guess it depends on how much risk you are willing to take for additional profit. If you are afraid of giving anything back; take the trade off at your target.

Are you more comfortable buying or selling previous highs?

Absolutely; a tight stop will probably get hit prematurely. So if you are going to let your winners run, you’ll probably have to do something else. I didn’t see anything in RNs statement about a tight stop.

What is your biggest weakness when it comes day trading?

Not necessarily. Perhaps part of your edge is using small size. Operating under the radar. It may not be scalable.

    Reviewing your trades

I grade the trade by how well I followed my trading plan. If I didn’t follow the plan to perfection I make note of what thoughts or emotions were running through my head that influenced my decision to deviate from the plan. I try to find out why I change a supposedly well thought out...
