Concerns grow over Egypt's Weapons of Mass Destruction

Do you live in fear every day? I realize that there are some potentially dangerous situations in geopolitics, but you post several dooms day threads each day. I'm curious if that type of scenario consumes you mentally and how it affects your day to day mood.

Teachers Unions & poor education in America

A poster on another financial site posted an interesting anecdote the other day. He vacations a lot (I believe he's retired) and he said that the vast majority of people that he meets on vacations or cruises are retired teachers, police, military or government workers. It must be nice to get...

Teachers Unions & poor education in America

I'm no fan of unions, but to place all the blame on the teachers union is way off base. I would say the the failure breakdown goes something like this: 40% Poor parenting.....we all know how society has changed in regards to discipline, morals, consequences, personal responsibility, etc...

why does Congress spend so much?

They spend in order to gain support, votes and donations. It's very simple really. Both sides of the isle does it, but how the two sides want to pay for it, and to whom the spending goes differs. Dems typically try to transfer wealth to the poor/lazy via entitlements, unions, trial lawyers...

FAO want to reinstate commodity rules from before deregulation

Doesn't removing liquidity actually make it easier for someone to drive the price in a certain direction?

What so many people get wrong about US deflation threat

Fortunately Bernake is our Fed chair and not gold bugs obsessed with Wiemar Germany and Zimbabwe like Ron Paul and Glenn Beck. As if those two situations are at all analogous to the US. I would say based on our situation, as net importers and having a fair amount of foreign held debt...

EGYPT civil war breaking out live

This is also why the Middle East is so easily controlled by totalitarian regimes. The Islamists however can and do have access to weapons and far beyond just firearms. You are totally naive if you think that that doesn't open the door for the Islamists to gain control over a country that is...

Egypt will blow up did you see brian williams face he is in shock..

You might have misread my post, but I don't think Egypt is a small country, but they have a small economy, relatively speaking. I realize that due to Suez, they have some control on the flow of oil, but I think regardless of what happens, the US/UN would take control of that and secure it...

Egypt will blow up did you see brian williams face he is in shock..

I'm not sure Egypt really matters. They don't have a ton of oil and they're a pretty small economy. Now, if this type of thing spills over into other countries, or if a Taliban-like crew takes over, there could definitely be long term consequences, but for now = no biggie

    Lawyers earning $10/hr????????

That's probably true. Money tends to be relative. A family making $30k in the US feels poor, while the same sized family in South American (or insert Asia, Middle East, Eastern Europe, Africa) would feel well to do.

    Lawyers earning $10/hr????????

I'm fine with the lawyer bubble pop'ing. the last thing we need in the country are more over-paid, ambulance chasers. Anyone who has ever owned their own business understands what a drain our legal system is on companies. So much time and money is spent in the effort to prevent frivolous law...

Cold/C-kidd/Jasonm/JohnathanIII/et al, First, welcome back. Secondly, you are a moron if you actually called IB with this stupid question. Last, I would have paid money to listen to that phone call...LOL

    what's YOUR personal CPI?

Don't worry, the guys that live in their parents basement and earn $10k/yr, will be on here soon telling us how because McDonald's raised their Dbl Cheeseburger by 10 cents, that there is rampant, widespread, hyperinflation due to Helicopter Ben. Ignoring the fact that clothing probably costs...

When will we hit Dow 12000?

The "sky is falling" crowd cracks me up. I think all throughout history you could find a lot of negative fundamental problems with local and world economies, as well as local and national governments. Despite that, there is money to be made in the market more times than not. Perma-bears...

Policy makers trying to come up with a way for states to declare BANKRUPTCY!

Yes, this has to happen for many states to survive. It would be a good thing, IMO to get a clamp on these out of control government pensions.

    Day/SWING/POSITION ?? TRADING

I agree that psychology is probably the biggest factor in trading. That's a no-brainer. However, I disagree that day trading is no different than position trading. I decided several years ago that position trading etf's and mutual funds and beating the market averages by a paltry 5-10%...

    WHY? Jobless good, crude down

A down tick in claims doesn't really change the employment situation materially, so crude shrugs it. It just isn't as easy as good news = crude up, bad news = crude down.

Not sure about law school, but I can say that lawyers are a noose around the neck of the US.
