A GOOD investment for spare cash

There is a signifant difference between what Chinese and American farmers would call "earning a living". Also, it's not the subsidies that make them uncompetitive, there is likely an enormous gap in technology (equipment, fertilizers, etc).

A GOOD investment for spare cash

Farming is not quite that easy. I always laugh at these type of posts, that recommend buying "a few acres" and growing your own food, selling surplus, etc. Also, farmland is very expensive currently.

Tensions Explode On CNBC, As Simon Hobbs Tells Cramer: "You Told People To Buy Bear S

Both of these guys are annoying, but at least Cramer provides some entertainment value. Also, at least Cramer can say he's made some money trading in the past. Hobbs is just a European socialist commentator. Commentators tend to make the best Monday-morning QB's.

    Sarkozy gone bust

It amazes me that these morons think that you can stop bloodbaths by banning short selling. The market is going to do what it's going to do. You still need someone that wants to buy the shares that others are wanting to sell to stop down markets.

Use Prison labor to replace offshored chinese production.

I've never understood why you would just have 3 million able bodied men, laying around watching TV all day. They should without a doubt, send all non-violent offenders to work camps. Make them as productive as possible, even though the vast majority would make Union workers seem like workaholics.

    USPS considering cutting 120,000 JOBS!!!!!!

We need to quit throwing good money after bad, by financing a dying industry. Lay 100,000 off, close 2/3's of the offices and go to 3 day delivery.

Germany: EU Countries Balanced Budget Amendments Required

If you want Gemany to foot the bill on your bailout, then you have to play by their rules.

    Gold is finished

I'm long GLD, but I'm starting to get very nervous here. I've gotten out previously when it looked "toppy", much to my chagrin. But I'll likely get out soon or at least lighten my load in the next day or two.

    Japan Spirals into Bankruptcy?

This crisis will depress the entire world. The US, EU and Japan are in horrible shape. Once the advanced economies take a tumble, all of the exporter/emerging countries will implode. The next decade isn't looking so good....

    Who lost their balls today.

I've lost a fair amount in the past week or so. I'm long GLD with about 1/3 of my investable assets, so my losses have been muted, but I'm also long VTI and RWR.....OUCH!

    S&P Downgrade rumors

They did not miscalculate. That is of course what BO's administration would like you to believe. They simply used "less rosy" baseline numbers for the calculations. Either way, it did not change their outlook. I do not blame S&P for using different assumptions because frankly, you can't...

17% of Navy Seal Team 6 Wiped Out..

With all due respect to the SEALS and their families, 30'ish special ops guys going down in a chopper isn't going to make or break the Afghanistan operation. Finance and the will of the American people to be at war, will determine how long we are there.

Get Ready for Massive Deflation Spiral

I tend to agree. Deflation is more of a risk than inflation at this point. I have a business, and I can assure you that there is little appetite for price increases with my customers. As commodities go up (as has recently happened), it will slow down the economy, thereby crushing commodities...

    S&P is a bunch of irresponsible f**ks

They are trying to salvage whatever remaining credibility that they have after the mortgage debacle. Everyone already knows that there are two options for our debt: Default or Monetization Their rating change is a diagnosis of our economic disorder, not the actual disorder itself.

    India calls US downgrade 'grave'

I have been long gold on and off for some time because the trend is up and I don't see that changing for the near future. Way too much pessimism and uncertainty. Also, inflation appears to be the only way out of our debt.

    India calls US downgrade 'grave'

Agreed. This "rating" doesn't change the math on anything. I highly doubt that central bankers and large funds have been buying US debt based on S&P's ratings. This rating change my cause Joe Public to re-evaluate and it may usher in a change of the trend in bonds, but that was going to...

China renews call for another global reserve currency

That is the true point at which we'll have to pay the piper. Until then we can more or less continue borrowing and spending too much. Once we lose the server currency status, IT'S ALL OVER.

Wait, so is S&P going to downgrade the United States of America @ 8:15pm EST ??!!

At this point, the gold up trend is still well in tact. Look at a 20 year chart of the S&P priced in gold. Stocks have been horrible since 2000. Until that changes, why not be in gold?

    America Is Doooooooooooooooooooooooomed!! Downgrade Tonite!

Is a downgrade really that big of a deal? I know it will probably hurt the stock market short term, but for right now, bond traders are not that horrified of US debt at this point. Long bonds are priced in the $130's.
