Paying Your Employees So Little That Most Of Them Are Poor?

I am involved in a family business where we own and operate five sit down, restaurants. I will be the first to admit that many of our employees are not paid well. Our tipped employees (servers) end up making pretty good wages if they are good at their job. The cooks, dish washers, bus boys...

Is it possible Greece will ever leave the EU

Of course it's possible. It's at least a 50/50 proposition in the near term (<1 yr), IMO. Very likely to happen eventually. Greece needs a weaker currency for their tourism industry to thrive. This won't happen as long as they are behold-ant to the Euro and Germany.

    Greece....how can they...

If they leave the EU, they can weaken their currency and bolster their #1 asset..... tourism.

    Greece....how can they...

They won't without leaving the EU, IMO. They agreed to austerity. Wait to see if they actually follow through with that, when election time rolls around.

Athens. A few fires here and there.

LOL...... what a bunch of losers. If these lazy Greeks applied half as much effort to work as they do to protesting and rioting, they wouldn't be in this mess.

If the government was a household budget...

So are you suggesting that our debt to GDP ratio is low? I think the ratio you spoke of is getting near dangerous territory. With that said, we obviously have the advantage of reserve currency, which for the time being, doesn't appear to be in danger in the fiat system.

Greek police union wants to arrest EU/IMF officials

Bingo. This is less about Greece than it is keeping the rest of the PIIG's from defaulting.

Former Poker player...Where do I start?

If you're legitimately profitable (consistently making $100k/yr), I would highly recommend moving to Canada or the Caribbean

Reading List: Eurozone prepares to eject Greece (video edition)

Greece leaving the EU would probably be the best thing for everyone involved. Let Greece inflate it's currency and then tourism would likely come back to the country.

How far will the Euro fall if Greece goes into 'bankruptcy'?

Greece is over for now. Problem solved, with some haircuts and more debt. The bigger picture though remains the same in virtually all advanced nations/regions. There is way too much debt out there in most of Europe, the US and Japan. Between the deleveraging and the demographics, these...

    Becoming an independent trader

As long as you fully understand the risks, you should be fine. You are single and have a $200k job. Just don't quite until you have a pretty good idea of whether you'll be successful or not. A couple years of live trading will show you exactly where you are and what you need to do to become...

Money From MF Global Feared Gone

There is no respect or fear of punishment in white collar swindles like this. People should literally hang for this. About 5-10 Investment bankers hanging from the gallows (including Corzine) would probably do more to protect retail traders than any type of crappy law that Congress could come...

If we pulled out of Europe, can the EU still afford its social services?

They can't even afford their social programs now, so no, if the US pulled out and stopped subsidizing their military spending, they could not afford their social services without adding several hours to their work week and a couple of years to their working careers.

    Islamists win Egypt election

It's sad to say, but there are some people that just need to be governed by thugs. When choosing between crazy Islamast thugs or a greedy thug like Mubarak, I will chose Mubarak every time. Obama thought otherwise.

Looks like the Euro Crisis is over

They may have figured out a way to kick the can down the road for another year or two tops, but from a macro standpoint, this thing is a long way from over.

Why does Germany have better jobs/middle class than us?

Obviously no one is advocating that. It is what it is. I was just pointing out one of the big factors. Now with that said, it would be a much fairer comparison to compare the entire EU to the US, relative to population and scale of economies, that is more valid. Cherry picking one of the...
